Chapter 2 - The Trap at 9:17 PM

Arthur Vance took a step forward, gesturing to the two sheriff's deputies.

“Under Virginia law,” Arthur explained calmly, “as the sole manager of EHB Heritage Holdings LLC, Mrs. Bradley has revoked your residential lease due to material breach and unauthorized third-party occupation. Furthermore, because individuals not named on any lease agreement—specifically Miss Naomi Fields, Mr. Howard Bradley, and Mrs. Laurel Bradley—are currently occupying the premises without consent, the deputies are here to ensure their immediate removal.”

“Immediate?!” Laurel shrieked from the kitchen, her voice cracking. “It’s seven o'clock in the morning! We are his parents!”

“And you are currently trespassing on private corporate property, Mrs. Bradley,” the senior deputy said firmly, stepping into the hall. “Ma'am, sir, you have fifteen minutes to gather your personal effects and step off the premises, or you will be placed under arrest for criminal trespass.”

Naomi’s jaw dropped. She looked down at the silk robe she was wearing, suddenly looking entirely vulnerable and exposed.

“Landen...” Naomi whispered, her voice trembling. “Do something!”

Landen stared at me, his fists clenched so tightly his knuckles turned white. “You think you’re so smart, don't you, Elisa? Fine! Keep the damn house! It doesn't matter! The $2.4 million you authorized last night is already cleared! Bradley Commerce Creative is saved! I have the capital, I have the client contracts, and I have the future! You can have this brick box!”

I looked at him, feeling a sudden, strange wave of pity for how utterly foolish he was.

“Landen,” I said softly. “Do you really think an acquisitions manager with fifteen years of corporate law experience would transfer $2.4 million of her own money into a sinking ship without reading the receiver details?”

Landen froze.

“What did you say?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

I pulled my phone from my pocket and tapped the screen, displaying the transaction confirmation from 9:17 PM the previous night.

“You brought me a wire transfer form last night, claiming it was an emergency infusion to save your design firm from a commercial lender,” I explained calmly. “You thought I was looking at your company’s routing number. But last night, while you were squeezing my hand and telling me I was the only person who believed in you, I routed that transfer through an escrow holding account tied to Aegis Healthcare Acquisitions.”

Landen took a step back, hitting the side table. “What... what did you do?”

“I didn't lend your company money, Landen,” I revealed, my voice ringing clear across the foyer. “I bought your company’s entire primary debt portfolio from your lender three weeks ago for forty cents on the dollar. Last night’s transfer was not a loan to save you. It was the final legal execution of a foreclosure buyout. As of 9:17 PM yesterday, Bradley Commerce Creative is a wholly owned subsidiary of my holding group.”

Landen’s eyes went wide with pure, unadulterated horror.

“You... you bought my company?”

“I own your firm, Landen,” I smiled—a cold, sharp, lethal smile. “I own the equipment in your office, I own the IP rights to your designs, and as of five minutes ago, I fired you as CEO.”
