Chapter 9 - The Reading of the Legacy

Three days later, the legal storm that had enveloped Vance Logistics cleared entirely.

In the grand conference room of Hayes Global Holdings, Eleanor Vance sat at the head of a long glass table, surrounded by federal prosecutors, corporate auditors, and her legal team. Marcus laid a thick leather folder in front of her.

"Mrs. Vance," the lead federal prosecutor announced, "with the evidence provided by Mr. Hayes’s firm, all fraudulent debt claims levied by Mercer Development have been struck down with prejudice. Furthermore, the city has approved full municipal restitution for the arson of Warehouse 4."

Eleanor looked at the documents, tears streaming silently down her cheeks. "The company... it’s completely ours again?"

"It is entirely yours," I said, sitting beside her. "And through a new cooperative agreement with Hayes Logistics, Vance Logistics has secured exclusive shipping rights for the entire upper river corridor for the next twenty years."

Eleanor turned to me, her breath catching in her throat. She didn't look at the papers, the money, or the legal victory. She looked at me—the man who had stepped out of the shadows to rebuild her broken world.

"How can I ever repay you, Alexander?" she whispered.

I reached across the table and covered her hand with mine. "By staying."

Eleanor blinked, her heart hammering in her chest. "Staying?"

"The West Wing of the estate is yours for as long as you wish," I told her, my voice softer than anyone in that corporate building had ever heard it. "Ethan has never been happier. My home has never had life in it like it has over the last three days. And I... I do not wish to return to a world where you and your daughters are not in it."

May you like

Eleanor smiled—a breathtaking, radiant smile that brought light into every corner of the room. She wrapped her fingers tightly around mine.

"We aren't going anywhere, Alexander," she promised.
