Chapter 8 - The Emergency Board Hearing

On Thursday morning, the grand boardroom on the top floor of Prescott Technologies was packed. Board members, investors, news reporters, and legal reps filled the room. At the head of the table sat Richard Calder, smiling triumphantly alongside his team of high-powered attorneys.

I sat at the opposite end, with Sarah Lin on my left and Cassandra sitting proudly right behind me.

"This emergency board meeting is now in session," Calder announced, knocking a wooden gavel on the table. "We are here to vote on the motion to remove Damon Prescott as Chief Executive Officer due to gross breach of fiduciary responsibility and unauthorized equity transfers."

"Before you take that vote, Mr. Calder," Sarah Lin spoke up, standing up with a stack of documents. "We have new evidence to present to the board."

Calder sneered. "Any evidence regarding Mr. Prescott's personal melodrama is irrelevant. The facts are clear: he compromised a seven-hundred-and-eighty-million-dollar deal."

"The evidence isn't about his personal life," I said, standing up and commanding the attention of the entire room. "It's about corporate espionage, fraud, and the true value of the Merritt acquisition."

I nodded to the tech team, and the massive wall monitor lit up.

Displayed on the screen were full audio recordings and encrypted emails recovered from Julian Vance's hard drive—conversations detailing a secret agreement between Julian and Richard Calder.

The room gasped as Julian's recorded voice filled the speakers:

“Once I force Damon out using the acquisition delays, Calder will acquire Prescott Tech for half its valuation. I want twenty percent of the restructured firm.”

Calder’s face drained of all color. He slammed his hands on the table. "This is an outrage! This data was illegally obtained!"

"It was recovered from company servers during an active criminal burglary attempt," Sarah pointed out calmly. "Julian Vance is currently in federal custody, and he has already signed a full confession implicating you, Mr. Calder, in an attempted hostile takeover through fraud."

The board members immediately erupted into furious whispers, turning their glares toward Calder.

"Furthermore," I continued, stepping toward the center of the room. "The non-profit model I structured for the Merritt platform has already secured backing from the World Health Organization and three major international medical trusts. The projected long-term licensing revenue from this model exceeds our original corporate projections by forty percent."

I looked around the room at the men and women who held the power to take my life’s work away.

"I spent years believing that success meant ruthlessness," I said, my voice echoing with conviction. "I was wrong. True leadership is about protecting what matters—whether that's millions of infants who need medical care, or the family waiting for you at home. If you want to vote me out for choosing integrity over corporate greed, do it now. But Prescott Technologies will always stand for life."

Silence fell over the massive boardroom.

One by one, the board members began to stand up. The lead independent director, a veteran investor named Eleanor Vance (no relation to Julian), looked at Calder with contempt, then turned to me.

"The motion to remove Damon Prescott is denied," Eleanor declared firmly. "And the board hereby authorizes full legal action against Calder Investments."

Applause broke out across the room. I turned to look at Cassandra. She was standing up, tears of pride shining in her eyes, clapping for me.

I walked straight past the cheering board members, wrapped my arms around her waist, and lifted her into a hug, kissing her passionately in front of the entire room.
