Audrey looked at Lily for a long moment.
Then said softly:
“She is the stabilizer that prevents collapse.”
Lily frowned. “Collapse of what?”
Audrey answered immediately.
“Everything.”

Caleb whispered:
“…This system was built to contain you.”
Audrey nodded.

The system changed tone.

The core began to destabilize.
Caleb stepped forward instantly.
“No.”

Caleb shook his head.

Audrey looked at him.

she looked almost human again.
“There is,” she said.

Caleb froze.
Lily stepped back.

Caleb slowly looked at Audrey.
“…What is that?”
Audrey didn’t answer immediately.
Then, softly:
“That is what I was trying to protect you from remembering.”
