Chapter 9 - The Reckoning of the Veritas Group

The final phase didn’t happen in a courtroom; it happened in the shadows.

With the master ledger unlocked and Clara’s forensic financial analysis acting as a wrecking ball, the global infrastructure of the Veritas Group began to implode across three continents. Swiss bank accounts were seized, front companies were raided by international law enforcement agencies, and the high-ranking board members who had orchestrated the covert war against independent industrial empires found themselves cornered by indictments they couldn't buy their way out of.

Back in Montana, the safehouse had returned to a place of peace and genuine warmth.

Jonah and Blythe were running across the alpine meadows, chasing butterflies with a carefree energy that brought tears to Mrs. Gable’s eyes.

Lawson stood on the wooden balcony of the main lodge, holding a cup of coffee as the evening sun dipped below the rugged mountain peaks, painting the sky in brilliant shades of violet and gold.

Footsteps sounded behind him. Clara stepped out onto the balcony, leaning against the wooden railing beside him, breathing in the crisp mountain air.

“The international wires just confirmed,” Clara said softly. “The Veritas Group’s European accounts have been completely liquidated and distributed to international children’s medical research funds. They’re finished. Permanently.”

Lawson turned his head to look at her. The harsh lines of tension that had defined his face for years were entirely gone.

“And your husband’s name?” Lawson asked gently. “And your son?”

Clara closed her eyes for a brief moment, a bittersweet smile touching her lips. “The federal government formally cleared my husband’s record this morning. And... my son’s memorial plaque in Geneva has finally been rededicated with honor, instead of as a fabricated casualty of a corporate war.”

She turned to face Lawson, her hazel eyes shining with unshed tears. “Thank you, Lawson. For everything.”

Lawson reached out, his hand gently covering hers on the wooden railing. “You walked into my gates when I was at the absolute end of my rope. You saved my children, Clara. You saved my soul.”

Clara looked down at their joined hands, her heart fluttering with a feeling she thought she would never experience again—hope.
