Chapter 7 - The New Horizon

Monday morning brought the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange and a brand-new trading week for Cross Meridian.

From his newly reorganized executive suite on the thirty-fifth floor, Daniel watched the financial tickers scroll across his secondary monitor. Cross Meridian’s stock had jumped four points at the opening bell, buoyed by market confidence following the swift removal of internal corrupt elements and the successful consolidation of regional logistics assets.

The door to his office opened quietly.

Sarah Jenkins walked in, holding a slim leather folder containing the final settlement documents for the Hale family corporate liquidation.

"Everything is wrapped up, Daniel," Sarah reported professionally, placing the folder on the desk. "The Hale commercial holdings have been successfully absorbed into our regional portfolio at a fraction of their estimated market value. Their family name is essentially defunct in the Pacific Northwest business community."

"Good," Daniel said without looking up from his monitor. "Make sure the transition team prioritizes retaining the frontline workers and low-level administrative staff. They shouldn't pay for the sins of the executives."

"Already handled," Sarah smiled, a rare expression of genuine approval touching her lips. "You’ve turned out to be a remarkable CEO, Daniel. Your father would have been proud."

"Thank you, Sarah," Daniel replied quietly.

As Sarah exited the office, Daniel leaned back in his leather chair, spinning his executive pen idly between his fingers. He looked out through the massive glass windows at the bright, clear Seattle sky stretching out toward the horizon.

The storm was entirely gone. The foundation was secure.
