Chapter 7 - THE DOWNFALL OF JULIAN
Judge Mercer did not hesitate. She banged her gavel with a sound like a thunderclap.
"In twenty years on the bench," Judge Mercer stated, her voice echoing off the wood-paneled walls, "I have rarely witnessed a more appalling, calculated display of parental cruelty and bad-faith litigation. Mr. Sterling, your actions represent a severe, active danger to the physical and psychological well-being of your child."
She issued her ruling immediately from the bench:
Sole Legal and Physical Custody: Granted exclusively to Helena Sterling, effective immediately.
Supervised Visitation: Denied for Julian Sterling pending a full psychiatric evaluation, a minimum of twelve months of court-monitored anger and behavioral therapy, and further order of the court.
Restraining Order: A permanent protective order issued requiring Julian to maintain a minimum distance of 1,000 feet from Helena and Ivy at all times.
Financial Restitution: All transferred funds from the family trust ordered frozen and restored to the primary account under Helena’s sole guardianship.
"Furthermore," Judge Mercer added, staring down at Julian with absolute disdain, "I am referring these forensic audio logs and financial records directly to the Commonwealth’s Attorney for formal criminal prosecution regarding child endangerment and corporate fraud."
Julian slumped forward, burying his face in his hands as his legal team scrambled to collect their papers, refusing to even look at him.
I sat at my table, felt Eleanor’s warm hand press against my shoulder, and let out a long, quiet breath that I felt like I had been holding for months.
As we exited the courtroom, local news reporters crowded the marble hallway. Julian walked out flanked by court deputies, shielding his face from the cameras as reporters shouted questions about the corporate fraud investigation and the child endangerment charges.
I walked past him, holding my head high, stepping out of the courthouse doors into the bright morning sunlight.
