Chapter 9 - THE BOARDROOM COUP

At 8:55 AM the next morning, the Lawson Atlantic boardroom was packed. The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Arthur Sterling stood at the head of the table, looking incredibly confident in a bespoke charcoal suit. He tapped his pen against the mahogany wood.

"Ladies and gentlemen of the board," Sterling began, his voice dripping with faux sympathy. "We are here under tragic circumstances. Thomas Lawson's mental state has clearly deteriorated. The diversion of funds, the unauthorized medical expenses... it breaks my heart to say this, but we must invoke Article 4 and remove him as CEO immediately to protect the shareholders."

The board members murmured in agreement, shifting uncomfortably.

At exactly 9:00 AM, the heavy double doors of the boardroom crashed open.

Thomas Lawson walked in.

He didn't look like a defeated, broken man. He looked like a king returning to reclaim his throne. His suit was immaculate. His eyes were hard as diamonds, burning with a cold, terrifying fire. Flanking him were two senior agents from the FBI's corporate fraud division.

Sterling’s smug smile faltered. "Thomas. We were just—"

"You were just committing career suicide, Arthur," Thomas interrupted, his voice echoing off the walls with devastating authority. He threw a thick, black folder onto the center of the table.

"That," Thomas said, pointing to the folder, "is a digital footprint analysis tracing the leak of a minor's confidential medical records directly to a private investigator paid out of Arthur Sterling's personal offshore account. A federal crime. Furthermore, there is no embezzlement. Every cent paid for my daughter's medical care came from my personal, post-tax equity trusts."

The boardroom erupted into shocked gasps. The board members stared at Sterling, who suddenly looked very pale.

"This is absurd!" Sterling stammered, backing away from the table. "He's lying! This is a desperate distraction!"

"The FBI doesn't think so," Thomas said coldly.

The two agents stepped forward. "Arthur Sterling," the lead agent said, producing a pair of handcuffs. "You are under arrest for corporate espionage, illegal acquisition of protected medical data, and wire fraud."

Sterling’s face contorted in rage as the cuffs were snapped onto his wrists. He glared at Thomas. "You're weak, Lawson! You're losing your edge over a crippled kid!"

Thomas stepped up to Sterling, stopping inches from his face. The room fell dead silent.

"That 'kid' has more strength in her little finger than you have in your entire miserable soul," Thomas whispered, his voice laced with venom. "And I am not losing my edge, Arthur. I have found my purpose. Now get out of my building."

As Sterling was hauled out of the room, Thomas turned to face his stunned board of directors. He straightened his tie.

"Lawson Atlantic will fully fund the Seaport Plaza," Thomas announced, his commanding presence filling every corner of the room. "And effective immediately, we are launching a new philanthropic division dedicated exclusively to funding pediatric spinal research. Are there any objections?"

The board members looked at each other, then unanimously shook their heads.

Thomas smiled. "Good. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a surgery to attend."
