Chapter 7 - The Unspoken Boundary

After the incident at the gala, the atmosphere between Natalie and Damian shifted irreversibly.
The invisible barrier between employer and employee had shattered.
Damian insisted on driving Natalie home himself whenever she visited her sister, kept double security on her family at all times, and spent his late evenings sitting with her in the estate library, talking about their pasts, their dreams, and their losses.
Natalie learned about Damian’s late wife, Elena—a marriage arranged by family politics that had ended in tragedy when a rival bomb intended for Damian had taken her life five years ago.
"I thought my heart was entirely dead after that," Damian confessed one midnight, as they sat before a roaring fireplace while snow fell softly outside the bay windows. "I thought my only purpose was to protect Ava and survive."
He looked at Natalie, his gaze warm and intense. "Then a woman walked into my daughter’s life, stood up to a boutique manager, and showed me what real courage looks like."
Natalie felt her heart pounding against her ribs. "Damian... I was just trying to do the right thing."
"You saved my daughter, Natalie," he said softly, leaning closer. "And you are saving me."
He reached out, his hand gently touching her cheek, his thumb brushing over her lower lip.
Natalie didn't pull away. She leaned into his touch, her breath hitching as he leaned down and pressed a soft, lingering kiss against her lips—a kiss filled with years of unspoken longing, quiet reverence, and deep protection.

When he pulled back, his dark eyes searched hers. "I know my world is dangerous, Natalie. I know what people say about me. But I swear on my daughter’s life... I will never let any harm come to you."
"I know," Natalie whispered, resting her forehead against his chest. "I trust you."
