Chapter 10 - The Golden Garden

One year later.

Spring had returned to the Gold Coast estate.

The grand gardens were in full, glorious bloom. White roses, purple lavender, and weeping cherry trees framed the terrace overlooking Lake Michigan.

It was a quiet Sunday afternoon.

On the manicured lawn, a wide white marquee was set up for the grandest wedding Chicago had seen in a century.

Bella stood in the private dressing room of the main mansion, looking at herself in the full-length mirror.

She wore a breathtaking, custom lace gown with a long silk train that trailed like foam on the ocean. Her dark curls were styled with tiny pearl pins, and around her neck rested a stunning diamond-and-emerald necklace—a Marino family heirloom handed down by Rosa.

A gentle knock sounded at the door.

Rosa stepped into the room, holding a small bouquet of fresh white roses tied with silk ribbon.

"Oh, my dear," Rosa whispered, tears welling in her soft eyes. "You are absolute perfection."

Rosa walked over, placing the bouquet into Bella’s hands, then took a small velvet box from her purse. She opened it to reveal a golden ring set with an emerald surrounded by diamonds.

"This belonged to Marco's grandmother," Rosa said softly, placing the ring on Bella’s finger. "She was a woman of great heart. Just like you."

"Thank you, Mama Rosa," Bella said, hugging the older woman tightly.

Down on the terrace, three hundred guests sat under the warm sun as the string quartet began to play a slow, majestic processional.

Marco stood at the altar under an arch of white roses.

He looked magnificent in a black tuxedo, his posture straight, his face illuminated by a joy he had never known in his life. Beside him stood Matteo as his best man, looking sharp and proud.

The music shifted.

The crowd stood up.

Bella stepped onto the white carpet, walking slowly down the aisle, her veil drifting gently in the spring breeze.

Marco’s eyes locked onto hers, and for a second, the powerful mob king looked as if his breath had been completely stolen away.

When she reached the altar, Marco took her hands into his, leaning down to whisper:

"You are breathtaking, Signorina Marino."

"I am officially Mrs. Marino now," Bella teased softly with a radiant smile.

"Forever," Marco promised.

The priest read the sacred vows, exchanging the golden rings under the bright blue sky.

"By the power vested in me," the priest announced, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."

Marco didn't hesitate. He pulled Bella into his arms, lifting her slightly off her feet, kissing her deeply as the entire crowd erupted into loud, joyful cheers and applause.

May you like

Petals of white roses rained down from the canopy above.

Hand in hand, Marco and Bella walked back down the aisle together into the warm, golden sunshine of their new life—a life built not on fear or shadows, but on the unbreakable foundation of courage, love, and the quiet dignity of a heart that refused to walk past the rain.
