Chapter 8 - The Silos of Death

The abandoned grain silos at the Port of Chicago loomed like giant concrete monsters against the howling white snowstorm. Inside the massive, hollow structure, the wind whistled eerie tunes through broken metal vents.

Della slowly regained consciousness, her head throbbing painfully.

She found herself tied securely to a heavy iron chair in the center of the vast concrete room. Beside her, Sienna was tied to another chair, blood trickling down her forehead from the gash on her temple, her eyes just beginning to flutter open.

Standing in front of them, holding a heavy wooden club, was Bryce Vandermeer.

"Welcome back, ladies," Bryce sneered, his face twisted in psychotic delight.

Sitting on a crate nearby was Viktor Rostov, checking the digital timer on a crate of industrial C4 explosives strapped to the central support pillar of the silo.

"Where... where are we?" Sienna whimpered, struggling against her ropes.

"Your funeral home," Bryce laughed maniacally. "In twenty minutes, your dear brother Damon will receive a message to come here alone. And when he walks through those doors... BOOM! Everything goes sky high!"

Della looked at the explosives, then at Bryce, her eyes devoid of fear, filled only with intense, icy contempt.

"You really are a pathetic coward, Bryce," Della said, her voice echoing clearly across the vast room. "You couldn't beat Damon in business, you couldn't beat him in court, so you hide in the dark like a rat."

Bryce’s smile vanished. He stepped forward, raising his hand to strike Della across the face. "Shut up, maid!"

"Touch her," a cold, booming voice echoed from the shadows above, "and I will skin you alive."

Bryce froze, dropping his hand, spinning around in terror.

High up on the rusted iron catwalk forty feet above them, a figure stepped out of the swirling snow blowing through the shattered roof vents.

It was Damon Westcott.

He stood alone, clad in a black tactical coat, holding a heavy combat rifle, his eyes glowing like blue fire in the dim light.

Viktor Rostov cursed in Russian, snatching his assault rifle and aiming it upward. "How did you find us so fast?!"

"Did you really think my sister wore that silver brooch just for decoration?" Damon said softly, his voice echoing off the concrete walls. "It carries a military-grade satellite locator."

Rostov opened fire, spraying bullets toward the catwalk.

Damon leaped backward into the shadows with breathtaking speed as tactical glass shattered above. Simultaneously, the reinforced double doors of the grain silo blew inward with a deafening explosion!

Damon’s private strike force flooded the facility!

Gunfire erupted into a chaotic war zone! Bright muzzle flashes lit up the dark interior of the silo like violent flashes of lightning. Rostov’s mercenaries were caught completely off guard, falling one by one under the ruthless, precision fire of Westcott’s elite men.

Bryce panicked, screaming in terror, pulling a small handgun from his coat and pointing it directly at Della’s head!

"Stay back!" Bryce shrieked hysterically toward the catwalk. "Stay back, Westcott, or I’ll blow her brains out!"

Della looked up at the catwalk, meeting Damon’s eyes. She didn't scream. She didn't panic. She trusted him completely.

Do it, Damon, her eyes signaled silently.

From forty feet above, without a single second of hesitation, Damon dropped his rifle, drew his sidearm, and fired a single shot straight down through the dark.

The bullet tore through the air with terrifying precision, passing half an inch from Della’s ear, striking Bryce directly through the center of his right wrist!

Bryce screamed in agony as his gun flew from his shattered hand, blood spraying across the snow-dusted concrete!

Damon vaulted over the catwalk railing, dropping forty feet onto a pile of grain bags below, landing gracefully before sprinting forward like a demon unleashed!

He reached Bryce in two seconds, grabbing the younger man by his throat, slamming him face-first into the concrete floor with bone-crushing force!

"I told you," Damon growled, pressing his heavy combat boot onto the back of Bryce’s neck, "I would erase you."

A few yards away, Rostov was trying frantically to hit the manual detonator on the C4 crate!

Victor burst through the smoke, firing two heavy rounds straight into Rostov’s chest. The Russian cartel leader collapsed back over the crates, dead before he hit the ground.

The room fell into sudden, heavy silence, broken only by the crackle of burning debris and the whistling wind.

Damon immediately turned away from Bryce, dropping to his knees beside Della and Sienna.

"Damon!" Sienna sobbed as he sliced her ropes with a combat knife, pulling her into a brief, fierce hug. "I knew you’d come!"

He turned to Della, his hands trembling slightly as he cut her bonds. The moment her hands were free, Della threw her arms around his neck, hugging him with all her strength, burying her face into his shoulder.

"Are you hurt?" Damon whispered desperately, holding her tightly against his chest, kissing her hair repeatedly. "Tell me you're not hurt, Della."

"I'm okay," she sobbed softly, holding his face in her hands, looking into his fierce, emotional eyes. "I'm okay because of you."

May you like

Damon pulled her into a deep, passionate kiss right there amidst the ruins of the silo, putting every ounce of his soul, relief, and fierce love into her lips.

Behind them, Victor dragged the screaming, bleeding Bryce away in handcuffs to face federal authorities—and a lifetime in a maximum-security prison.
