Chapter 6 - A New Foundation

Later that evening, Ethan walked out onto the back veranda alone.
The sun was setting behind the rolling hills of the estate, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of amber, violet, and deep gold. The white tent was long gone, the lawn cleared and re-seeded, returning the grounds to their natural, serene state.
For the first time in thirty-six years, Ethan Caldwell felt completely unburdened.
He didn't have a schedule to keep, a socialite fiancée to appease, or a fragile illusion to maintain. He was simply himself—a man who had faced the worst betrayal imaginable and had emerged stronger, clearer, and wiser on the other side.
His phone buzzed in his pocket. He pulled it out, expecting a message from Marcus regarding the European market opening.
Instead, it was a notification from a local animal rescue foundation he had quietly funded earlier that week, thanking him for a major anonymous endowment.
Ethan smiled, slipping the phone back into his pocket.

He turned away from the railing and walked back inside Caldwell House, closing the glass doors behind him with a quiet, solid click, ready for whatever tomorrow would bring.
