Chapter 9 - The Final Counter-Check

Ethan reached into his breast pocket, pulled out a small black flash drive, and calmly inserted it into the media port on the side of the podium.

"Thank you for bringing that to the floor, Mr. Vance," Ethan said, his voice echoing across the auditorium with terrifying clarity. "You are entirely correct. A fourteen percent holding block does carry specific legal privileges under our corporate charter. However, there is a fundamental rule in corporate law that your legal team apparently forgot to review before filing your motion."

Julian’s confident smile faltered slightly. "What are you talking about?"

"Section 9, Paragraph C of the Caldwell Systems Master Bylaws," Ethan stated smoothly, tapping a single key on the podium console.

Instantly, the massive digital display screen behind him shifted from the corporate logo to a legal document stamped with federal seals and cryptographic verification hashes.

"When an individual or coalition utilizes liquid assets derived from funds currently under federal criminal seizure or restraint—such as the frozen accounts associated with the Beaumont family—those voting rights are automatically frozen under the Patriot Act and Federal Asset Forfeiture Guidelines," Ethan explained, his eyes locking onto Julian Vance like a hawk sighting its prey.

The auditorium gasped. Several institutional investors stood up to look at the screen.

"Furthermore," Ethan continued, clicking to the next slide, which displayed financial wire routing numbers and encrypted metadata, "our internal security audit, conducted in cooperation with federal investigators yesterday afternoon, traced the exact origin of Vanguard Holdings' capital. The fourteen million dollars used to purchase those shares was wired through a shell company in the Isle of Man—a transaction authorized, signed, and digitally fingerprinted by none other than Claire Beaumont from a contraband cellular device inside the State Correctional Facility."

Julian Vance’s face turned the color of chalk. He gripped the edge of his seat so hard his knuckles turned white.

"Federal marshals executed a search warrant at the detention facility thirty minutes ago," Ethan said, his voice dropping into a cold, commanding register. "Claire Beaumont’s communication privileges have been permanently revoked, her remaining hidden assets have been seized under a federal superseding indictment for conspiracy and securities fraud, and your proxy petition, Mr. Vance, is legally null and void."

Ethan looked out over the stunned, silent crowd of investors.

"Are there any other questions regarding the financial stability of Caldwell Systems?" Ethan asked quietly.

Not a single person moved.

After three long seconds, a single institutional investor in the second row started clapping. Within moments, the entire auditorium erupted into thunderous, roaring applause. Flashbulbs flared once more, but this time, the headlines weren't about a hostile takeover—they were about the ultimate defeat of corporate corruption by a man who was always three steps ahead.
