Chapter 10 - The Brave Rabbit’s Wedding

One year later.

Spring had arrived in Savannah in a glorious burst of azaleas, white dogwoods, and bright blue skies.

The courtyard garden of the Mercer House was filled with blooming white roses, folding white wooden chairs, and the sweet, joyous sound of a live acoustic guitar playing a gentle southern melody.

In the front row sat Amara, wearing a stunning lilac dress, smiling through tears of happiness. Beside her sat Judge Harold Vance, Mrs. Gable, and the entire staff of the Sweet Corner Café, dressed in their finest attire.

At the altar beneath a grand oak tree draped in white silk ribbons stood Beckett Ward.

He wore a flawless dark navy suit, looking handsomer than ever, his face radiant with a happiness that had completely erased every lingering shadow of his past grief.

Beside him stood six-year-old Eliza, wearing a tiny white flower girl dress with a yellow ribbon sash. And perched proudly in the pocket of Beckett’s suit jacket, wearing a tiny black bow tie made by Amara, was Toby the stuffed rabbit.

The music shifted to a slow, breathtaking rendition of Can't Help Falling in Love.

Every guest stood up, turning toward the arched garden gates.

Delaney stepped through the entrance.

She was a vision of breathtaking, radiant beauty. She wore an ivory lace gown with a flowing train that caught the gentle spring breeze. Her dark hair fell in soft curls around her shoulders, holding a simple gardenia hairclip. In her hands, she carried a bouquet of white roses, yellow daisies, and fresh green ivy.

As she walked down the stone aisle toward him, Beckett’s eyes overflowed with happy tears. He took a deep, steadying breath, his heart swelling with a gratitude so vast it filled the entire courtyard.

When Delaney reached the altar, Beckett took her hand into his, his fingers trembling with emotion as he looked into her dark, beautiful eyes.

"You are my brave heart, Delaney," Beckett said, his voice carrying clearly to every person in the garden, unbounded by fear or hesitation. "You walked into my dark, quiet world and brought the music back. You showed my daughter how to be brave, and you showed me how to live again. I promise to love you, honor you, and stand by your side through every storm life brings us."

Delaney smiled, tears of pure joy running down her cheeks as she squeezed his hands.

"You are my home, Beckett," Delaney replied softly. "You showed me that love isn't something that costs money or demands perfection. Love is sitting on a dirty floor under a table, waiting out the storm together. I promise to love you, hold you, and build our future with you, forever and always."

"By the power vested in me by the State of Georgia," the minister announced with a broad smile, "I now pronounce you husband and wife. Beckett, you may kiss your bride!"

Beckett didn't hesitate. He pulled Delaney into his arms, dipping her slightly, and kissed her with a fierce, passionate devotion that sent a roar of cheers and applause through the assembled crowd.

Eliza cheered loudly, jumping up and down, holding Toby up toward the blue sky. "Toby says they are officially allowed to kiss now!"

The guests laughed and clapped as Beckett pulled Delaney back up, wrapping his arm securely around her waist.

Together, holding hands with Eliza between them, the new family walked down the stone aisle toward the house, surrounded by the laughter of friends, the fragrance of blooming gardenias, and the warm, eternal sunshine of a love that had built a sanctuary out of the storm.
