Chapter 8 - The Council of Blood

The formal dining room of the Moretti estate was bathed in the cold, gray light of dawn. The massive mahogany table—usually reserved for holiday dinners or quiet family meals—now sat draped in dark velvet.

Around the table sat five elderly men in tailored suits: the senior capos of the Moretti syndicate. At the head of the table sat Arthur Rossi, an aging man with silver hair, cold blue eyes, and an air of entitled arrogance that had poisoned the family for decades.

Vincent stood at the far end of the table, his hands resting flat on the mahogany surface, flanked by Rocco and two armed enforcers.

"You called an emergency council meeting at sunrise, Vincent," Arthur said smoothly, taking a sip of his espresso. "And you barred our security from entering the gates. Explain yourself. We are businessmen, not soldiers in a street gang."

"Businessmen," Vincent repeated, his voice dangerously calm. He slid a heavy manila folder across the table toward Arthur. "Tell me, Uncle, how is your offshore account in the Cayman Islands doing? The one funded by the Marcone family in exchange for my daughters' security codes?"

Arthur didn't flinch, though a flicker of panic crossed his aging eyes. He pushed the folder away with a scoff. "This is a clumsy forgery. You're losing your mind, Vincent. Ever since Elena died, you've been unstable. You let a civilian nanny into your home, you let your guard down, and now you're seeing ghosts."

"The tactical leader we captured yesterday didn't see ghosts," Vincent stated, pulling his Sig Sauer from his shoulder holster and laying it flat on the velvet table. "He saw a paycheck signed by your Swiss routing number, Arthur."

The other capos at the table began murmuring anxiously, shifting in their seats and eyeing the pistol.

"You have no proof that holds up before the commission," Arthur sneered, standing up and leaning over the table. "You think you're the undisputed king of this city, Vincent? Without us, your syndicates fall apart by noon today. You need us!"

"I don't need traitors," Vincent said quietly.

Before Arthur could draw the small snub-nosed revolver hidden in his jacket, Rocco moved with terrifying speed. A heavy hand clamped around Arthur’s wrist, twisting it until bone popped, sending the pistol clattering across the floor. Rocco slammed Arthur face-down onto the mahogany table, pinning him with effortless brutality.

"Vincent! You can't do this! I'm family!" Arthur shrieked, thrashing desperately.

"My family is upstairs sleeping," Vincent said, his voice like freezing water. "You endangered my daughters. You invited wolves into my home."

Vincent looked up at the remaining four capos, whose faces were pale with absolute terror. "The Moretti syndicate is restructured as of this moment. Anyone who has a problem with that can stand up now."

Not a single man moved. Not a single man breathed.

"Take him to the docks," Vincent instructed Rocco without looking back. "And make sure the debt is paid in full."
