CHAPTER 1: THE GALA OF GOLD AND GUILT

The chandelier above the Grand Whitmore Hall didn’t just shine.
It judged.
Hundreds of guests filled the billionaire’s gala—diamonds, tuxedos, champagne, laughter layered over ambition.
And in the middle of it all—
a maid was being dragged across the marble floor.
“No! I didn’t steal anything!” she cried.
But her words disappeared into the music.
Because at events like this, innocence was just noise.
The billionaire—Richard Vale—stood at the top of the staircase, watching.
Cold.
Unmoving.
Beside him, his security chief held up a small velvet box.
Inside—
missing jewelry.
A family heirloom worth millions.
“It was found in her apron pocket,” the guard said.
The maid shook her head violently.
“I swear, I didn’t—please!”
But no one listened.
Guests already had their story.
Poor girl.
Desperate girl.
Thief.
Richard raised a hand slightly.
“Call the police.”
The room exhaled in approval.
Justice restored.
Order maintained.
The maid collapsed as handcuffs clicked shut.
And that should have been the end.
But then—
as she was pulled forward, something slipped from her pocket.
A photograph.
It fluttered across the marble floor.
Sliding…
Stopping…
Right at Richard Vale’s shoes.
He didn’t look down at first.
Until something inside him tightened.
Slowly, he bent.
Picked it up.
And froze.
Because the photo wasn’t random.
It was his past.
A woman he had not seen in twenty years.
The mother of a child he believed was lost forever.
His hands trembled.
“Where did you get this?” he whispered.
The maid shook her head in panic.
“I don’t know! It was given to me! I swear!”
But Richard wasn’t listening anymore.
Because his eyes had locked onto something else.
A small detail in the corner of the photograph.
A bracelet.
The same bracelet his daughter wore the day she disappeared.
His breath broke.
And for the first time in twenty years—
Richard Vale dropped to his knees in front of everyone.
May you like
Not because of the maid.
But because of the truth he had just found inside her pocket.
