Chapter 6 - THE CONFESSION ON LIVE TELEVISION

The crowd was dead silent save for the whirring of camera lenses and the distant calls of seagulls off the lake.
"For fifteen years," Blake continued, looking directly into the primary news camera, "Harrington Developments has built a reputation on progress, architectural brilliance, and financial success. But today, I stand before you to tell you that our success was built on a foundation of terrible, unacceptable cruelty."
Gasps echoed through the audience. The mayor stepped back, exchanging a panicked look with his press secretary.
"Blake!" Richard Sterling shouted, rushing toward the stage, his face flushed red. "He’s exhausted! Turn off the microphones! Security, clear the stage!"
Two security guards stepped forward, but Marcus Vance stepped into their path, his towering frame blocking them with quiet, immovable strength.
"Last night," Blake said, ignoring the chaos, "I found a six-year-old girl hiding behind a concrete pillar in my company's underground parking garage. Her name is Lily Vance. She asked me if I was the 'bad building man.'"
Blake reached down and gently brought Lily closer to the microphone. The little girl looked out at the sea of suits and cameras, her small hand holding tightly to Blake’s thumb.
"Lily and her family were forced out of their home on this very property three weeks ago," Blake said, his voice cracking with emotion. "They were not given notice. They were not given relocation funds. They were threatened by private security contractors and driven onto the winter streets while my company celebrated a billion-dollar closing."
Blake pointed a finger directly at Richard Sterling, who was standing frozen at the edge of the stage.
"Over the last four years," Blake declared, "my Chief Operating Officer, Richard Sterling, embezzled over eight million dollars intended for tenant relocation through a fraudulent shell company called Vanguard Real Estate. He used illegal eviction tactics to displace over two hundred families across Chicago."
Blake pulled a thick white binder from beneath the podium and slammed it down onto the wood.
"This binder contains the forensic audit, wire transfer records, and illegal eviction orders signed by Richard Sterling," Blake announced. "I have already delivered copies of these documents to the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the State Attorney General."
In the back of the crowd, four federal agents in dark suits pushed through the onlookers, walking directly toward Richard Sterling.

"Blake, you fool!" Richard screamed as the agents grabbed his arms, pulling them behind his back. "You're destroying the company! You're destroying yourself! You signed those filings!"
"Then I will face whatever legal consequences come my way," Blake replied, watching coldly as steel handcuffs snapped around Richard's wrists. "But Harrington Developments will no longer be a machine that destroys human lives for profit."
