Chapter 20 - Eternal Horizon
Six months later.
The summer sun shone warmly over the reconstructed cliffside terrace of the Costa estate. The grand lawn was once again filled with life, but this time, there were no tactical security guards hiding in the shadows, no encrypted radio chatter, and no lurking threats.
A small, intimate gathering of true friends—Leo, Chief Miller, key foundation workers, and close staff— sat around long wooden tables decorated with yellow roses and sparkling crystal.
Laughter and light music drifted on the afternoon breeze.
Nora sat at the head of the long table, glowing with health and happiness. Beside her, Gabriel sat with his arm resting comfortably behind her chair, a look of serene contentment on his face that his former enemies would have found completely unrecognizable.
Leo stood up, holding a glass of champagne, tapping his fork against the glass.
"Alright, quiet down, everyone," Leo called out with a warm grin. "I’m not big on long speeches—that’s usually Gabriel’s job when he’s threatening people—but I think today deserves a proper toast."
The guests chuckled warmly.
Leo looked at Gabriel and Nora, his eyes full of deep respect and affection. "Two years ago, this house was a dark fortress. Gabriel was a man who carried the weight of the entire city on his shoulders, living only for vengeance and control. And then, a thunderstorm brought Nora Sterling through those front doors."
Nora smiled, reaching under the table to hold Gabriel’s hand.
"Nora didn't just survive the darkness here," Leo continued. "She brought light into every corner of this estate. She showed us all what true strength looks like—not the strength of guns or money, but the strength of love, resilience, and unyielding courage. To Gabriel and Nora Costa. May your sanctuary stand forever."
"To Gabriel and Nora!" the guests echoed, raising their glasses high in the air.
Gabriel stood up, pulling Nora up with him. He looked around the table at the people who had fought beside them, and then down at the woman who had transformed his soul.
"Thank you, Leo," Gabriel said, his deep voice carrying clearly over the lawn. "Two years ago, I told Nora that she was safe in my house. I thought I was protecting her."
He looked into Nora’s brilliant green eyes, his thumb gently tracing her jawline.
"I was wrong," Gabriel said softly, his voice thick with genuine emotion. "She was the one who saved me. She saved me from becoming the monster my enemies wanted me to be. She gave this house a heart."
Nora felt tears of pure joy prickling at the corners of her eyes. She leaned up on her tiptoes and kissed him deeply, right there in front of everyone, uncaring of the cheers and applause that erupted around them.
When they finally broke apart, Gabriel smiled—a warm, bright, beautiful smile that reached his eyes.
He led her away from the party, taking her hand as they walked down the stone path toward the private cliffside overlook where the sunset was painting the sky in vibrant shades of gold, crimson, and violet.
They stood together at the edge of the cliff, the warm ocean breeze blowing against their clothes, the wide horizon stretching out endlessly before them.
Gabriel wrapped his arms around her from behind, resting his hands gently over her lower stomach, where a faint, delicate warmth was just beginning to show beneath her dress—a tiny, wonderful secret they had discovered just three days ago.
"Are you happy, Nora?" Gabriel whispered, kissing the side of her neck.
Nora leaned back into his powerful, protective embrace, placing her hands over his, looking out at the bright, beautiful sky.
