Chapter 5 - The Move to the Estate

Within thirty minutes, two black executive sedans pulled up to the dilapidated apartment building in East Boston.
Richard Harrison himself stepped out of the back seat, accompanied by a woman in a sharp grey suit—Victoria Sterling, Harrison Dynamics’ chief legal counsel.
When Elena opened the door, her eyes red and swollen, Richard didn't offer money. He offered protection.
“Mrs. Lin,” Richard said, stepping into the tiny, crowded living room. “Someone is targeting you. I don't know who yet, but I suspect it is connected to my company or my family. By saving my son, your family was pulled into my shadow. I will not let you suffer for it.”
Elena wiped her eyes, looking confused. “Targeting us? Why would anyone care about us?”
“Power makes people cruel,” Victoria Sterling interjected gently, pulling out a tablet. “Mrs. Lin, I’ve already audited your landlord and your former employer. Both received sudden, anonymous cash injections this morning from an offshore shell company registered in the Cayman Islands. This wasn't an official city condemnation. It was a paid eviction.”
Elena gasped, covering her mouth.
“Pack your clothes,” Richard said firmly. “Pack Noah’s medical equipment. You, Maya, and Noah are coming to live at Harrison Manor.”
“No, I can't—” Elena began automatically.
“Mrs. Lin,” Richard interrupted, his voice laced with profound sincerity. “My son Ethan hasn't smiled or spoken a full sentence since his mother died eighteen months ago. But for the last two weeks, all he talks about is 'Maya with the safety pins.' He asks me every day if she’s coming to play. You wouldn't just be accepting my help; you would be saving my son a second time.”
Elena looked at Maya, who was sitting on the floor showing Noah how to fold paper airplanes. She looked at the orange condemnation notice on the door. She had no money, no home, and no job—but here was a man offering her children safety and world-class medical care for Noah.
“Alright,” Elena whispered, tears overflowing again. “We’ll come.”
An hour later, the black sedans glided through the massive iron gates of Harrison Manor.
When six-year-old Ethan was wheeled out into the grand marble foyer by his nurse and saw Maya stepping through the front doors, his face lit up like a Christmas tree.
“Maya!” Ethan yelled, his weak voice echoing off the high ceilings. He manually pushed his wheelchair forward as fast as his small arms could manage. “You’re here! Look, I got a new robot!”
Maya ran across the polished floor, stopping right beside his chair. “It’s about time. Does this one have lasers?”
“Yeah!” Ethan giggled.
Standing on the grand staircase above, Julian Harrison watched the scene unfold. His face was a mask of cold fury. His plan to intimidate the Lin family into leaving the state had backfired spectacularly—Richard had brought them directly into the center of the empire.

"Plan A failed. Initiate Plan B. We need to accelerate the board vote before Richard changes his will."
