Chapter 8 - The Fall of the Queen

Vanessa dropped her hand from Noah’s chin as if she had been burned. The syringe clattered against the silver tray, a small amount of the clear liquid spilling onto the polished wood.
"Grant!" Vanessa gasped, her face turning instantly pale, her voice morphing back into the sweet, innocent tone she used so effectively. "Darling, thank God you're here! This... this crazy maid, she broke into the house, she's trying to attack me! She's making up insane stories—"
"Shut up, Vanessa," Grant said. His voice wasn't loud, but it possessed a terrifying, freezing authority that cut through her frantic words like a blade.
He walked past her, ignoring her outstretched hands completely, and knelt beside Noah's wheelchair. He looked at the spilled liquid on the tray, then looked up at his wife. "I saw everything. I heard everything you said through the monitor. You threatened my son’s life. You used my own company’s failed chemical weapons against my flesh and blood."
"Grant, please, it's not what it looks like—" Vanessa stammered, backing away toward the door, her flawless composure shattering completely.
"I called the police from the closet, Vanessa. They are entering the driveway right now," Grant said, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and profound heartbreak. "And I called my head of security. The cameras you thought you were blocking? We pulled the raw data logs from the main server this morning. We have every single instance of your abuse recorded."
As if on cue, the distant wail of police sirens began to echo up the long driveway of the mansion.
Vanessa looked at Grant, then at Claire, her eyes filled with venomous, desperate hatred. "You ruined everything!" she screamed at Claire, lunging forward with her hands clawed like a wild animal.
But Grant intercepted her, grabbing her wrists firmly. Two police officers burst into the room a moment later, guns drawn, followed by the head housekeeper, Mrs. Gable, who looked horrified as she finally realized the true nature of the woman she had served.

"Officer, arrest that woman," Grant said, pointing at Vanessa. "She has been administering illegal chemical substances to my minor son. The evidence is right there on the tray."
The officers quickly restrained Vanessa, clicking the metal handcuffs around her elegant wrists. As they dragged her screaming and cursing down the marble hallway, the heavy silence that had plagued the mansion for a year finally began to lift.
