Chapter 5 - The Boardroom Execution

The grand high-rise tower of Whitlock Holdings in downtown Scottsdale glistened under the bright 8:00 AM sun.

Inside the corporate boardroom on the thirtieth floor, the atmosphere was suffocatingly tense. Eleven board members sat around the massive mahogany table, whispering nervously among themselves.

At the head of the table sat Lorraine Whitlock. She was dressed in an immaculate charcoal-gray Chanel suit, her silver hair perfectly styled, her expression cold and supreme. Beside her sat Arthur Vance, her attorney, who kept checking his watch with visibly sweating hands.

"Where is he?" Lorraine asked, her voice sharp as glass as she looked at Brenda, my former executive assistant who now stood near the door. "It's eight o'clock. Grant is late. As I told you all, my son has suffered an emotional breakdown and is currently incapacitated—"

The heavy double doors of the boardroom swung open with a loud, sudden thud.

Every head in the room snapped toward the entrance.

I walked in.

I wore a tailored dark navy suit, a crisp white shirt, and a silk tie. My posture was straight, my eyes sharp as diamonds, my presence filling the massive room with an overwhelming authority.

Behind me walked David Vance, my LA federal attorney, carrying a thick leather briefcase, followed by two uniformed federal marshals.

Lorraine froze. Her hand, which had been holding a silver pen, tightened until her knuckles turned white.

"Grant," she said, quickly mastering her voice, forcing a disappointed, maternal sigh. "I'm glad you decided to show up. We were just discussing your temporary leave of absence—"

"Save it, Lorraine," I said, my voice cutting through the room like a broadsword. I walked straight to the head of the table, taking my seat at the chairman's chair.

David Vance stepped forward, opening his briefcase, and laid three thick legal folders in front of every single board member.

"What is the meaning of this?" Arthur Vance shouted, standing up from his chair. "This is an unauthorized intrusion! Mr. Whitlock is under a conflict of interest investigation—"

"Sit down, Arthur," David Vance said calmly, handing a white envelope directly to the man. "That is a formal notice of disqualification from the State Bar of Arizona, citing your involvement in the suppression of vital state birth records and criminal conspiracy with Apex Tactical. If you open your mouth again in this room, these federal marshals will place you under arrest immediately."

Arthur's face drained of all color. He sank back into his leather chair, trembling violently.

Lorraine glared at me, her eyes burning with pure venom. "You think you can intimidate my board, Grant? I own thirty percent of this company! I built this reputation!"

"You own thirty percent, Lorraine," I said, leaning forward and resting my elbows on the mahogany table. "And as of 7:30 this morning, the federal court in Phoenix granted me full temporary custody and parental rights over my biological sons, Lucas and Leo Whitlock. That means I now exercise voting control over the twenty percent trust my father established for my heirs."

A whisper of shock swept around the boardroom.

"Together with my fifty percent stake," I continued, looking directly into my mother's terrified eyes, "I hold seventy percent of the voting power in Whitlock Holdings."

Lorraine swallowed hard, her composure finally beginning to shatter into visible panic. "Grant... you wouldn't."

"I hereby invoke Article 4 of the Whitlock Corporate Charter," I announced, turning to the board members. "Citing severe corporate misconduct, misuse of company security assets, and actions creating catastrophic legal exposure for the firm. I call for an immediate vote to execute a mandatory buyout and retirement of Lorraine Whitlock's thirty percent stock, at current market valuation, payable via non-voting corporate bonds."

"I object!" Lorraine shrieked, standing up so fast her leather chair slammed into the glass wall behind her. "You can't do this to me! I am your mother! I created you!"

"Vote on the motion," I ordered, ignoring her completely.

Richard Hayes raised his hand immediately. "In favor."

Six other board members, seeing the writing on the wall and realizing where the real power lay, slowly raised their hands one by one.

"The motion passes with eighty-two percent of voting shares," I declared, picking up my pen and signing the formal resolution laying on the table.

I stood up, adjusting my suit jacket, and looked down at the woman who had spent six years destroying my happiness.

"Your stock has been converted into non-voting bonds, Lorraine," I said softly. "You no longer hold a seat on this board. You no longer hold an office in this building. Your access codes to every Whitlock resort, estate, and facility worldwide have been permanently revoked."

"Grant!" she screamed, tears of pure rage finally spilling down her face. "You monster! You're throwing your own mother into the street for a cheap secretary and two bastards?!"

One of the federal marshals stepped forward, placing a firm hand on her shoulder. "Mrs. Whitlock, you need to collect your personal belongings and leave the premises immediately. Otherwise, we will escort you out in handcuffs for criminal trespass."

Lorraine looked around the table. Not a single board member would look her in the eye. Her empire had vanished in less than ten minutes.

She turned to me, her face contorted with absolute hatred. "You will regret this, Grant! You will rot in hell for what you've done to me!"

I watched her as the marshals led her out of the boardroom, her heels clicking loudly against the marble floor until the double doors swung shut behind her.

I took a deep, clear breath. The air in the room felt lighter, cleaner, as if a dark shadow that had hung over my life for forty-seven years had finally been lifted into the sun.

I turned to my new executive team.

"Gentlemen," I said calmly. "Re-establish contact with the investment group in Seattle. Tell them I'm ready to close the deal. But first... I have to go home to my sons."
