Chapter 8 - The Weight of Regret

The VIP lounge fell into a stunned, icy silence. Sir Arthur Pendelton and several surrounding high-profile guests turned, realizing they were witnessing a raw, devastating family exposure.
Celeste dropped to her knees right there on the polished marble floor of The Plaza Hotel, uncaring that her expensive silk dress was bunching up around her.
"Forgive me..." Celeste wept bitterly, burying her face in her hands. "We were young... we were arrogant... we were terrified of what people would say! We didn't know... we didn't know you would become... this!"
Logan looked down at the weeping woman at his feet. A profound, quiet sorrow filled his heart—not for himself, but for the sheer tragedy of her existence.
"That is your greatest tragedy, Mrs. Sterling," Logan said softly, every word hitting her like a physical blow. "You didn't love me when I was a helpless infant with a mark on my face. You only want me now because I am standing here with a gold medal around my neck and the world's respect at my feet."
Graham stepped forward, his lips quivering, holding out a shaking hand toward Logan.
"Logan... please," Graham begged, dropping all corporate pretense, his voice reduced to a raspy whisper. "Our company... Sterling Global Logistics... we are facing bankruptcy. The banks are foreclosing on our home. Sir Arthur Pendelton... if you just tell Sir Arthur to grant us the shipping contract... you can save us! You can save your family!"
Julian, standing behind his parents, finally put the pieces together. His eyes widened in absolute shock as he looked at Logan, then at his kneeling mother.
"Wait..." Julian stammered, pointing at Logan. "He's... he's my older brother? The one you told me died at birth?"
Celeste flinched as if struck by a whip. She couldn't look at Julian.
Logan looked at Graham Sterling. He looked into the eyes of the man who shared his blood, yet shared nothing of his soul.
"My family is standing right beside me," Logan said calmly, gesturing to Margaret. "She gave me her life when I had nothing. You gave me up when I needed everything."
Sir Arthur Pendelton stepped forward, his face set in a look of absolute disgust as he looked at Graham Sterling.
"Mr. Sterling," Sir Arthur said with cold, British disdain. "I have heard enough. Security, escort these individuals out of the building immediately. And as Chairman of the Vanguard Global Health Trust, I assure you that Sterling Global Logistics will be permanently blacklisted from every international healthcare contract in our network."
"No! Sir Arthur, please!" Graham screamed as four large security guards stepped up, grabbing Graham and Julian by their arms, pulling them backward toward the exit doors.
"Logan! Please! I am your father!" Graham roared, his voice echoing frantically across the grand hall as he was dragged away. "Logan!"
May you like
Logan didn't watch them go. He turned his back on them completely, reaching out to take Margaret’s hand in his.
Celeste remained on her knees for a moment longer, weeping hysterically, until two female guards gently lifted her and led her out into the cold October night.
