Chapter 6 - The Noose Tightens

The state forensic report arrived four days later, and the results were devastatingly conclusive. Camden Dennis’s tissue samples showed lethal concentrations of arsenic and heavy sedative compounds over a prolonged six-month period. It wasn't cancer that killed him; it was a slow, agonizing execution disguised as a medical decline.

Armed with the autopsy and the financial forensics, Marcus Vance filed a massive civil and criminal suit against Reagan and Carter Dennis, instantly freezing all their bank accounts and placing a lien on the Silver Lake house.

The sudden freeze caught Reagan completely off guard. The luxurious white SUV was repossessed from her driveway on a Friday morning, watched by whispering neighbors.

Furious and desperate, Reagan called Finnley’s phone number, which Marcus had intentionally left as the primary contact on the legal notices.

"You miserable little convict!" Reagan shrieked through the speaker. "Do you think you can scare me with these fake documents? I own that house! I own your father's company! If you don't drop this lawsuit by tomorrow, I will ensure your parole is revoked. I have people who will swear you threatened my life!"

Finnley held the phone calmly, his voice steady and cold. "The time for threats is over, Reagan. The state police have the forensic report from the logging town. They know about the arsenic. They know about the twelve million dollars Carter transferred to the Cayman accounts. Enjoy the house while you can, because by next week, you’ll be sleeping on a concrete bunk just like I did."

Reagan slammed the phone down, but Finnley could hear the underlying panic in her breath. The facade was finally shattering.
