Chapter 10 - The Warmth of Home

One year later.

The autumn sun cast a golden glow over the Silver Lake house, reflecting beautifully off the restored brick facade and the blooming red rose bushes along the porch.

Inside, the house was alive with warmth and music. The old leather armchair stood in its rightful place by the window, occupied by Marcus Vance, who was sharing a laugh with Finnley over a game of chess.

Finnley stood by the kitchen island, preparing a large dinner for the people who had stood by him during his darkest hours. His hands no longer shook. His eyes held a deep, serene happiness, the trauma of his three years in prison entirely washed away by the ultimate victory of justice.

He walked out onto the front porch, holding a small silver frame. Inside was the label that had been attached to the storage key—Unit 108—alongside a picture of himself and his father smiling at a company groundbreaking ceremony years ago. He placed it gently on the mantelpiece above the fireplace.

The heavy iron gates of the past had opened. The long, cold winter was over. Finnley walked down the steps into the garden, looking up at the clear blue sky. He could almost hear his father's voice whispering in the rustling leaves of the cypress trees: “You did it, son. The truth always finds a way.”

Finnley smiled, took a deep breath of the fresh autumn air, and walked back inside his home, locking the door securely behind him. He was finally, truly free.
