Chapter 9 - The Legacy of Love

The reception lasted late into the evening, illuminated by thousands of twinkling fairy lights hung through the ancient oak trees.
Guests danced to a live jazz orchestra on the wooden dance floor built over the lawn, while platters of gourmet food and champagne were served by a happy, celebrating household staff.
Near the edge of the terrace overlooking the lake, Vivian sat in a comfortable armchair, sipping champagne with Agent Miller, watching Noah chase Barnaby—a new golden retriever puppy Adrian had surprised him with for his birthday—around the lawn.
Hannah and Adrian stood together near the stone balustrade, watching their family and friends.
Adrian held a glass of dark wine, his right arm wrapped securely around Hannah’s shoulders, pulling her close against his side.
“Are you happy, Mrs. Moretti?” Adrian whispered into her hair, kissing her temple softly.
Hannah rested her head against his chest, listening to the steady, comforting beat of his heart.
“I have never been happier in my entire life, Mr. Moretti,” she smiled, looking up at him.
Adrian turned her gently in his arms, his dark eyes searching her face with deep affection.
“I have another surprise for you,” Adrian said, pulling a small ivory envelope from his pocket and handing it to her.
Hannah opened the envelope. Inside was a deed to a beautiful oceanfront property in Maui, Hawaii, along with three first-class airline tickets dated for the following week.
“A honeymoon?” Hannah gasped, her eyes wide with delight.
“A family honeymoon,” Adrian corrected her with a warm smile. “Two weeks on the beach with just you, me, and Noah. No security meetings, no city business, no telephone calls.”
Hannah wrapped her arms tightly around his neck, standing on her tiptoes to kiss his lips. “It’s perfect, Adrian. Absolutely perfect.”
Noah came running up the terrace steps, his small face flushed with excitement, clutching his puppy in his arms.
“Daddy! Miss Hannah—I mean, Mommy!” Noah cheered, his small voice bright and proud. “Barnaby learned how to sit!”
Hannah’s heart swelled to bursting at the word Mommy. She knelt down in her wedding dress, opening her arms wide.

Noah ran straight into her embrace, wrapping his tiny arms around her neck, while Adrian knelt beside them, wrapping his powerful arms around both of his treasures.
The moon rose high over Lake Michigan, casting a brilliant, silvery light across the water, illuminating the family that had been forged in the crucible of truth, protected by courage, and bound forever by an unbroken love.
