Chapter 6 - A Mother's Strength

Over the next month, my life became a blur of legal consultations, forensic audits, and balancing my work at the clinic with caring for Leo.
Despite the chaos, Leo was thriving. Without the constant, toxic presence of his aunt and cousins pushing him to be someone he wasn't, he began to open up. He started attending a specialized art and coding class on Saturdays, where his incredible ability to visualize patterns was celebrated rather than mocked.
One evening, as we sat together on our living room rug, Leo showed me a digital game he had built. It was a simple puzzle where players had to organize train cars by color and weight to optimize fuel efficiency.
"Look, Mom," he said, tapping the screen. "If you put the red car first, the train goes faster because it's lighter. It's about balance."
"It's incredible, Leo," I said, genuinely amazed by his logical mind. "You built this all by yourself?"
"Yes. My teacher said I have a very strong brain. He said my brain just works in a different language, like coding."

I pulled him close, holding him tight. "Your brain is a beautiful language, sweetie. Never let anyone tell you otherwise."
Meanwhile, the legal net was tightening around Vanessa. The forensic audit had revealed that she had not only embezzled from our father, but she had also taken out private loans in Richard's name without his knowledge, accumulating over two hundred thousand dollars in hidden debt. The luxurious lifestyle she had flaunted was nothing but a fragile paper castle, and the wind was blowing hard.
