Chapter 10 - The Harmony of Silver Creek

Years passed peacefully in Silver Creek.

The valley flourished into one of the most famous animal sanctuaries and equine therapy centers in the country. People traveled from all over the world to see the young autistic girl who could speak to traumatized animals without uttering a single loud word.

Ghost lived a long, happy, and cherished life, remaining Rowan’s constant shadow and guardian until his hair turned silver around his muzzle.

On a crisp, beautiful autumn afternoon, ten years after the day of the auction, Rowan stood on the high ridge overlooking the entire Silver Creek valley.

Beside her stood Marcus, now a fully licensed veterinarian, holding the hand of their three-year-old daughter, Elsie.

Little Elsie had her mother’s clear gray eyes and her grandmother’s quiet, gentle spirit. Sitting right beside the little girl was a young, energetic German shepherd puppy—one of Ghost’s grand-pups—watching the valley below.

Little Elsie reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small, shiny silver harmonica—a replica of her great-grandmother’s instrument that Rowan had given her for her birthday.

The little girl lifted it to her lips and played a sweet, wandering string of notes.

Down in the pasture below, a herd of rehabilitated wild mustangs raised their heads, listening to the music, before peacefully grazing again in the tall green grass.

Rowan wrapped her arm around Marcus’s waist, leaning her head against his shoulder as the golden sunset bathed the entire valley in warm, eternal light.

The noise of the world, with all its greed, ambition, and anger, had faded into nothingness.

All that remained was the truth, the land, and the sweet, quiet harmony of a love that could never be broken.
