Chapter 9 - The Million-Dollar Legacy

That evening, the Marsh family hosted a community dinner on the long wooden porch of the newly rebuilt farmhouse.

Ranchers, neighbors, townspeople, and volunteers sat at long tables covered in yellow tablecloths, sharing warm food, laughter, and music.

Maggie Marsh sat at the head of the table, looking healthier and happier than she had in years, pouring sweet tea for her neighbors.

Marcus walked over to Rowan, who was sitting on the porch steps watching the sun set over the mountains, with Ghost resting his heavy head across her lap.

Marcus pulled a official legal document from his jacket pocket and sat down beside her.

"The federal trust closed out my father's remaining personal accounts today," Marcus said softly. "The court officially released the one-million-dollar wager fund from the auction."

Rowan looked at the paper. "What are we doing with it?"

Marcus smiled warmly. "We're establishing the Rowan Marsh Autism & Equine Therapy Scholarship. Every year, fifty neurodivergent children who can't afford animal therapy will come stay at Silver Creek for free."

Rowan’s clear gray eyes lit up with a rare, radiant smile. "Mom would like that."

"She would be so proud of you, Rowan," Marcus said, his voice thick with emotion. "You saved this valley. You saved Ghost. And... you saved me."

Rowan looked down at the silver harmonica in her lap. She gently traced the initials E.M., then looked up at the golden horizon where the mountain peaks met the blue sky.

"We saved each other," Rowan said softly.
