My breath stopped.
Behind me, my mother made a sound like she was praying.
My father whispered, “Oh my God…”
Daniel’s eyes shifted past me.
Then landed on Leo.
And for the first time…
His smile disappeared.
“Emma,” he said quietly, like we were continuing a conversation from yesterday. “You weren’t supposed to keep him.”
Leo stepped forward.
“Mom… who is that?”
I didn’t answer immediately.
Because Daniel did.
“I’m your father.”
Silence.
Leo looked at me.
I didn’t deny it.
Because I couldn’t anymore.
Daniel stepped inside without being invited.
