Chapter 9 - The New Beginning

The months that followed were a blur of transformation.
Damon stepped back from the daily operations of Prescott Technologies, delegating the power to Nora and his hand-picked team. He focused on his family. He took Luke to soccer practice. He sat through ballet recitals for Violet. He spent his afternoons in the park, his eyes constantly scanning the playground, ensuring his children were safe.
He didn't make headlines anymore. The business magazines stopped calling. And honestly? He felt liberated.
Cassandra started a small design studio in Denver, her creativity finally finding a place to flourish outside the constraints of survival. They moved out of the penthouse and into a charming, older home with a backyard, a porch, and a room for each of the twins.
They were a family, but it was a family built on the ruins of the past—a deliberate, careful reconstruction.
Damon learned to hold Violet without feeling the need to check his phone. He learned to listen to Luke’s stories without looking for the "point." He learned the simple, beautiful art of being present.
One afternoon, in the middle of spring, Cassandra found him in the living room, reading a book while the twins played on the porch.
"You're not working?" she asked.
"I'm working," he said, looking up with a smile. "I'm working on being a dad."
She walked over to him, her hand resting on his shoulder. It was the first time she had touched him with such easy affection in years.

"You're doing a good job," she said.
Damon pulled her down onto his lap, his arms wrapping around her. "I'm just getting started."
