Chapter 6 - The Fall of the Empire

The auditorium exploded into pure chaos.
Enraged parents rushed toward the stage, shouting threats at Arthur Sterling and Patricia. Security guards, realizing the magnitude of the crime, refused to step between the angry crowd and the school administration.
Detective Hayes walked up to Miss Patricia, pulling heavy metal handcuffs from her belt.
"Patricia Sterling-Vane," Hayes said clearly, snapping the cuffs around the woman’s wrists. "You are under arrest for felony child abuse, injury to a child, and felony witness intimidation."
"Arthur! Help me!" Patricia shrieked, tears ruining her heavy makeup as she was pulled up from her chair. "Arthur, do something!"
Arthur Sterling stepped away from his sister, his face a mask of cold, calculating self-preservation.
"I had no knowledge of these actions," Sterling declared into the microphone, his hands trembling slightly. "If my sister committed these heinous acts, she will face the full extent of the law. The Sterling Development Group fully disavows—"
"Save it, Arthur," Javier interrupted, tossing a thick binder of documents onto the podium in front of the news cameras that had just burst through the auditorium doors. "This is the financial ledger showing monthly payments of fifty thousand dollars from your private account to Martha Collins to cover up parent complaints for the past six years."
Sterling froze, looking at the bank statements bearing his personal signature.
"And this," Javier added, pointing a finger at Sterling’s chest, "is the federal indictment for evidence tampering and destroying server records."
Two federal agents walked onto the stage, approaching Sterling from both sides.
"Arthur Sterling," the lead agent said, pulling a federal badge. "You have the right to remain silent."
As the billionaire was led off the stage in handcuffs in full view of the press, Javier looked out over the crowd of crying, outraged parents. The institutional wall built to protect abusers had collapsed into dust.
Javier walked off the stage, stepping out into the bright Texas sunshine, where his lawyer and friend, Marcus, was waiting in a car with Lucy.
When Javier opened the door, Lucy looked up from her coloring book, her hazel eyes wide and questioning.
"Daddy?" she asked softly. "Is the bad teacher gone?"
May you like
Javier pulled his daughter into a tight, warm embrace, kissing the top of her head as tears of relief finally flowed down his cheeks.
"She’s gone, baby," Javier whispered. "She’s never coming back."
