Chapter 8 - The Gala

A month later, the grand ballroom of the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago was packed with five hundred of the city’s most prominent figures—politicians, business tycoons, and high-society elites.

The occasion was the annual Moretti Foundation Charity Gala, raising funds for traumatic brain injury research and rehabilitation clinics.

At the top of the grand staircase stood Dominic Moretti. He looked magnificent in a tailored black tuxedo, his dark hair neatly styled, his commanding presence drawing every eye in the room.

Beside him stood Evelyn.

She took everyone's breath away.

She wore a custom emerald-green silk gown that hugged her full curves perfectly, highlighting her gorgeous figure. Her auburn hair fell in soft, elegant waves around her shoulders, and a brilliant diamond necklace—a Moretti heirloom—glinted at her collarbone. She walked with her head held high, radiating confidence, grace, and beauty.

The high-society ladies who had once ignored or mocked her now stared in awe and envy.

"You look stunning, my love," Dominic whispered in her ear, his hand resting possessively at the small of her back.

"I feel like a princess," Evelyn smiled, blushing softly as she looked up at him. "Though I still can't believe you made me the executive director of the foundation."

"There is no one else on this planet I would trust with it," Dominic replied sincerely.

At that moment, a quiet stir went through the crowd near the entrance.

Gideon Marsh walked into the ballroom, pushing a high-tech motorized wheelchair.

Sitting upright in the chair, dressed in a sleek charcoal suit, was Mateo Moretti.

The room went silent, then erupted into warm applause. The man everyone had thought dead or vegetative was alive, conscious, and smiling.

Dominic and Evelyn walked down the grand staircase together to greet him.

Mateo looked up at his twin brother, then at Evelyn, his voice clearer now after weeks of therapy. "You two... make a handsome couple."

May you like

Dominic laughed, clapping his brother gently on the shoulder. "It’s good to have you back, Mateo."

"It’s good to be back," Mateo grinned. He looked at Evelyn. "Now, go on. Dance with my brother before he burns a hole through the floor staring at you."
