Chapter 9 - The Vow Beneath the Stars

Three weeks later, the sun dipped below the horizon of the Louisiana bayou, painting the sky in breathtaking strokes of violet, amber, and deep indigo.

There were no federal agents, no syndicate bosses, no glittering crowds of socialites, and no cameras.

The courtyard of the Vale-Hart estate was illuminated only by dozens of soft, warm fairy lights strung through the ancient oak trees and flickering gas lanterns casting a golden glow over the stone patio.

Savannah stood before a small, rustic wooden arch draped in cascading white jasmine and English ivy. She wore a gown she had stitched entirely by hand—a masterpiece of minimalist silk featuring an intricate, hidden silver thread pattern woven along the inner bodice, spelling out her mother’s initials alongside Roman's.

Standing across from her under the arch was Roman. He wore a simple, elegant black suit, his dark hair catching the evening breeze, his eyes locked onto hers with an intensity that made the rest of the world vanish.

A trusted local magistrate, a man whose integrity had been verified by Roman’s inner circle years ago, stood between them with a small, leather-bound volume.

"We are gathered here tonight," the magistrate began quietly, his voice carrying softly across the tranquil garden, "not to bind two strangers in a corporate arrangement, but to witness two survivors choose each other under the open sky, free of shadows, free of fear."

Roman reached into his pocket and pulled out a small platinum band encrusted with delicate, interlocking silver stitches—the custom ring he had promised her weeks ago.

He took her left hand, his fingers warm, steady, and unshakeable.

"Savannah," Roman said, his voice dropping into a rich, resonant hum that reached into the very depths of her soul. "When I married you in that dusty California courthouse, I gave you my name, but I couldn't give you safety. I let the world tear us apart, and I spent four years burning in purgatory because of it. I swore that if the universe ever gave me a second chance, I would build an empire strong enough to shield you from every storm."

A tear slipped from Savannah’s lashes, but her smile was radiant, brilliant, and completely unclouded.

"You didn't just build a fortress, Roman," she whispered, her voice steady and clear. "You taught me how to fight inside it. You gave me back my voice, my art, and my life."

Roman slipped the platinum ring onto her finger, the custom silver stitches catching the amber glow of the lanterns.

"I take you, Savannah, as my wife, my partner, and my equal," Roman vowed, his gaze unblinking, absolute, and eternal. "In the light and in the shadows, for all the days to come. No one will ever touch you. No one will ever take you from me again."

"And I take you, Roman," Savannah replied, sliding a matching custom band onto his finger, feeling the solid, unbreakable weight of his commitment. "Through every war, every storm, and every quiet morning. We build the future together."

"By the power vested in me," the magistrate smiled softly, closing the book, "I reaffirm you as husband and wife. You may kiss your bride."

Roman pulled Savannah against his chest, dipping her slightly as his lips met hers. It was a kiss born of survival, victory, and an unbreakable love—a profound, lingering seal on a journey that had defied the darkest elements of the underworld and emerged victorious in the light.

Around them, a soft applause broke out from the handful of trusted confidants gathered in the garden—Marcus Vance, Dante, and a few close friends who had stood by them through the fire.

As Roman pulled her back up, burying his face gently in her hair as she laughed softly against his shoulder, Savannah knew the truth with absolute certainty: the war was over. The past was buried. And their real masterpiece was finally beginning.
