Chapter 10 - The Good Table

A full year after the breakfast attack, another beautiful, warm morning returned to Edgewater. The sun broke over the Atlantic Ocean, casting a brilliant, golden light across the floor-to-ceiling windows of Unit 1402. The apartment looked stunning—completely redesigned with minimal, modern furniture, clean white lines, and vibrant green palm plants that breathed life into every corner of the rooms.

The white quartz dining table was set for breakfast, but there was no tension here. There was no fear, no looming shadow of greed, and no voice demanding pieces of someone else's life.

Skylar sat at the head of the table, wearing a crisp, beautiful emerald-green silk dress that contrasted perfectly with the faint, faded pink line on her left cheekbone. The scar had settled into a light, elegant mark—no longer a source of pain or humiliation, but a beautiful reminder of the day she had chosen her own freedom over a toxic marriage.

Her business, Skylar Vance Administration, had doubled in size over the last twelve months. She had expanded her team, hiring three brilliant young logistics coordinators to handle the regional freight manifests, and her firm had just been named the primary administrative partner for the entire Port of Miami shipping expansion.

Sitting across from her at the table was her attorney and close friend, Marcus Sterling, alongside her parents, who had flown down from Orlando to celebrate the anniversary of her successful corporate launch. They passed around a large platter of fresh tropical fruit, warm artisan pastries, and a silver carafe of freshly brewed, fragrant organic coffee.

Marcus raised his porcelain cup toward her, a brilliant, proud smile breaking across his face.

"To Skylar," Marcus said, his voice echoing warmly through the sun-lit kitchen. "The smartest administrator in the state of Florida. You took a system failure and turned it into an absolute masterclass in corporate and personal optimization."

Her father nodded, his eyes glistening with pride as he looked at his daughter. "You built this empire yourself, Skylar. You protected it, and you proved that nobody can take away what you’ve earned with your own hands."

Skylar smiled, her fingers tracing the smooth, clean edge of her porcelain cup. She looked around at the laughter, the warmth, and the deep, uncomplicated love that filled the room. The long supply chain of her life had finally been cleared of all toxic liabilities, and the flow of her future was entirely secure.

She took a sip of the warm coffee, looking out at the endless blue horizon of the bay, her heart filled with a profound, beautiful serenity.

"Thank you," Skylar said softly, her voice steady, confident, and completely at peace. "This is the good table. And it’s mine forever."
