Chapter 8 - The True Wedding

Six months later.

The wedding took place under the towering redwoods of Bodega Bay, just a few hundred yards from the cottage.

There were no imported crystal chandeliers. There were no cameras, no corporate investors, no media reporters, and no ten-million-dollar contracts waiting to be signed.

There were only thirty people—our true family.

Instruments played a soft, beautiful acoustic melody as I walked down the carpeted dirt aisle, surrounded by the majestic, ancient trees. I wore a simple, breathtaking gown of silk chiffon, holding a bouquet of wildflowers and white roses.

Walking beside me, holding my hand with gentle pride, was Marcus Sterling, who had asked to walk me down the aisle as a surrogate father.

Standing at the altar beneath a wooden arch woven with eucalyptus and lavender was Julian, wearing a classic black tuxedo, his eyes shining with tears as he watched me approach.

Standing beside him was Frank Russo, serving as his best man, while Eleanor Vance stood as my maid of honor.

Sitting in the front row, wearing a little white lace dress and a crown of yellow poppies, was three-year-old Hope, holding the velvet ring pillow in her lap.

"Who gives this woman to be married?" the minister asked.

"Her family and her victory give her," Marcus said clearly, placing my hand into Julian's strong, warm grip.

Julian looked down at me, his hands holding mine firmly.

"Clara," Julian spoke his vows, his voice echoing softly through the quiet redwoods. "I promise to honor your independence, to support your dreams, and to stand as a fortress of peace for you and Hope. I promise that in our home, love will never be traded for ambition, and truth will always be our foundation."

I looked into Julian's kind hazel eyes, feeling every piece of my past finally locking into its rightful place.

"Julian," I spoke my vows, my voice clear and steady. "You showed me that real love doesn't demand sacrifice of one's soul. You loved me when I was rebuilding, you cherished my daughter as your own, and you gave me a home where I never have to hide. I give you my heart, my trust, and my life forever."

"By the power vested in me," the minister smiled, "I now pronounce you husband and wife!"

Julian pulled me into his arms, kissing me deeply as the crowd erupted into warm, heartfelt applause.

Hope came running up the aisle, throwing her tiny arms around both of our legs. "We're a family now!" she cheered.

Julian bent down, picking Hope up in one arm and pulling me close with the other, as the bright autumn sunlight filtered through the giant redwood leaves above.
