Chapter 10 - The Unspoken Words (Epilogue)

One year after the night at Damascus Rose.

The grand opening of the Detroit Riverfront Freight Terminal was held under a golden sunset. Over five hundred people gathered to celebrate the completion of the city’s largest infrastructure project in twenty-five years.

My father stood at the podium, his voice filled with overwhelming pride as he addressed the crowd.

"This project stands today not merely as a triumph of steel, concrete, and logistics," my father announced to cheering applause. "It stands as a testament to the vision, resilience, and unyielding strength of our Vice President and Board Member, my daughter, Ava Whitmore."

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause.

I stood near the front of the stage, dressed in an elegant midnight-blue gown, smiling as reporters flashed their cameras.

Beside me stood Zain, looking immaculate in a black tuxedo, his hand gently resting on the small of my back—not possessively, not aggressively, but as a steady, rock-solid support.

When the speeches concluded and the crowd drifted toward the champagne reception near the water, Zain and I walked down to the edge of the river pier, watching the freighter ships glide peacefully across the blue water.

The cool evening breeze ruffled my hair.

Zain reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a simple, elegant velvet box.

He turned to face me, looking down into my eyes with an emotion so deep, so pure, that it brought warm tears to my eyes before he even opened his mouth.

"Ava," Zain said softly, his voice rich and steady. "A year ago, you walked through fire to reclaim your voice, your power, and your dignity. You proved to the world that you are a woman who cannot be fooled, broken, or quieted."

He opened the velvet box. Inside rested a breathtaking vintage sapphire ring, surrounded by a delicate halo of small diamonds.

"I don't offer you this ring to complete you," Zain said, dropping to one knee on the wooden pier, holding my hand softly in his. "You are already complete. I offer it because I want to spend every sunrise of my life honoring your brilliant mind, protecting your gentle heart, and walking beside you as your equal."

He looked up into my eyes, and in flawless, beautiful Arabic, he asked the ultimate question:

"Will you give me the sacred honor of building a lifetime of truth with you, my love?"

I looked down at this incredible man—a man who respected my past, cherished my present, and believed in my future.

I didn't hesitate for a single second.

I knelt down on the wooden pier beside him, pulling his face toward mine, tears of pure, unadulterated happiness streaming down my cheeks.

And in perfect, beautiful Arabic, I answered:

May you like

"Yes, Zain. With all my heart, yes."

As his lips met mine under the golden Detroit sunset, the final shadows of the past evaporated into the cool night air, leaving behind only the bright, undeniable truth of a future built on love, respect, and complete freedom.
