Chapter 8 - The Fall of Vance Global

The financial blow from the twenty-five-million-dollar bankruptcy disaster proved to be the mortal wound for Vance Global Logistics.
Within forty-eight hours of the auction, news leaked to Wall Street that Victor Vance had spent twenty-five million dollars of corporate capital on an empty corporate shell while losing the Savannah Terminal lease to Sloane Logistics.
Vance Global’s board of directors held an emergency Sunday session. By Monday morning, Victor Vance was officially removed as Chief Executive Officer, stripped of his voting rights, and served with a shareholder derivative lawsuit for breach of fiduciary duty.
Simultaneously, the federal grand jury in Atlanta returned a multi-count indictment based on the hard drives Sarah had retrieved from the lake house.
On Wednesday morning, federal marshals arrived at Victor Vance’s oceanfront mansion in Sea Island, Georgia.
They led Vance out in handcuffs, dressed in an expensive linen suit, as local television news helicopters circled overhead. The charges included federal wire fraud, bribery of public officials, and conspiracy to commit corporate espionage.
Meanwhile, Patricia Calder found herself utterly destitute.

With Grant locked in a federal detention center awaiting trial and all Calder family assets seized under foreclosure orders, Patricia was evicted from her country club, her luxury sedan was repossessed by the dealer, and her high-society friends completely blocked her phone number.
She was forced to move into a tiny, one-bedroom garden apartment on the outskirts of the city, working as an entry-level receptionist at a dry cleaner's just to pay her basic living expenses—the very same working-class life she had spent years mocking me for coming from.
