Chapter 10 - The Real Wedding (Happy Ending)

The wedding took place six months later, in the height of late spring.
It was not held in a cold brick church with two hundred whispering strangers.
It was held right in the front yard of the Miller Ranch, under the shade of the blooming white cottonwood trees.
The wooden altars had been handcrafted by David and Caleb. The floral arrangements—wild daisies, yellow roses, and baby’s breath—had been picked by Clara and Toby.
One hundred guests attended—real friends, neighbors, local ranchers, Dr. Evans, Sheriff Bradley, and Sophie’s parents, who sat in the front row with tears of proud joy streaming down their faces.
Hannah served as Sophie’s maid of honor, wearing a dusty-rose dress, looking beautiful and radiant. Caleb and the younger boys stood as David’s groomsmen, wearing sharp boots and navy suits.
The music began—not a somber pipe organ, but an acoustic guitar played softly by Rusty from the porch steps.
Sophie walked down the grass aisle on her father’s arm.
She wore a brand-new wedding dress—a breathtaking, simple cream-colored gown with delicate lace sleeves, hand-stitched with love and freedom.
At the end of the aisle stood David. He wore a dark navy suit, a single white rose on his lapel, his gray eyes shining with an intense, devoted love that made Sophie’s breath catch in her throat.
When her father placed Sophie’s hand in David’s, her father whispered softly to David, "Thank you for saving my daughter."
"She saved us," David replied quietly.
The local minister stepped forward, his voice warm and resonant over the breeze.
"We are gathered here today," the minister began, "not merely to join two people in marriage, but to celebrate the union of a family built on truth, courage, and unconditional love."
When it came time for the vows, David held Sophie’s hands, looking directly into her soul.
"Sophie," David said, his voice ringing clear across the yard. "I take you to be my wedded wife. I promise to cherish you, stand by you in every storm, and honor the incredible light you bring into our lives. You are my home, my partner, and my greatest blessing."
Sophie smiled, her eyes brimming with happy tears as she spoke her vows.
"David," she said softly, "you reached out your hand when I was at my lowest, and you showed me what real love looks like. I give you my heart, my life, and my promise to stand by your side, through every harvest, every winter, and every joy. I am proud to be your wife, and proud to be a mother to our family."
"By the power vested in me," the minister announced, a broad smile on his face, "I now pronounce you husband and wife! David, you may kiss your bride!"
David pulled Sophie close, wrapping his strong arms around her waist, and kissed her deeply, passionately, under the sunny canopy of the cottonwood trees.
The crowd erupted into wild cheers, throwing handfuls of white flower petals into the air.
The seven children rushed forward, throwing their arms around David and Sophie, creating a massive, laughing group hug in the middle of the aisle.
"She’s our mom now!" little Luke cheered, holding onto Sophie’s lace skirt.
"She always was," Hannah smiled, hugging Sophie tightly.
Sophie looked out over the blooming valley, holding David’s hand tight, her children surrounding her, her heart overflowing with complete, unshakeable peace.
