Chapter 10 - The Empire of Love

One year later.
The grand ballroom of the Hale estate was decorated with thousands of white orchids, warm fairy lights, and crystal chandeliers that reflected off the polished marble floors.
Four hundred guests filled the room—business leaders, city officials, doctors from Children’s Memorial, community leaders, and former staff members who were now treated like royalty.
At the head table, Ethan Hale sat proudly in his wheelchair, holding a champagne glass in his own hand, chatting comfortably with Claire’s sister and little Leo, who was running around the dance floor in a tiny tux, full of energy.
Standing in the center of the dance floor were Roman and Claire.
Claire looked radiant in a custom off-the-shoulder wedding gown of ivory silk that celebrated every curve of her full figure with majestic elegance. A delicate diamond tiara sparkled in her auburn hair.
Roman held her closely, his broad hand resting warm and firm against her back as they swayed slowly to a soft jazz melody played by a live orchestra.
“Are you happy, Mrs. Hale?” Roman whispered into her ear, his lips brushing against her skin.
Claire looked up into his dark, fierce eyes—the eyes of a man who had once ruled Chicago with cold steel, but who now looked at her as if she were his entire universe.
“I am completely happy, Roman,” she smiled, resting her head against his chest, listening to the steady, strong beat of his heart. “Though I still think you spent too much on the flowers.”
Roman laughed softly, spinning her gently across the floor. “I’d buy you every flower in the world, Claire. You brought light into a house that only knew darkness. You gave me back my brother. And you gave me a reason to be a better man.”
From the head table, Ethan raised his glass toward them, shouting out in a clear, strong voice that echoed through the ballroom:
“To my brother! And to the woman who saved us both!”
The entire room exploded into cheers, applause, and toasts.
Roman dipped Claire back slightly, pulling her into a deep, passionate kiss beneath the shimmering lights of the ballroom.

His empire had grown larger, wealthier, and more powerful than his father could have ever dreamed. But it was no longer an empire built on fear, shadows, and violence.
It was an empire built on compassion, truth, and the unyielding love of the chubby maid who had seen the soul behind the silence, and changed everything forever.
