Chapter 10 - A LIFE IN THE LIGHT

One year later.
The sun was setting over the Atlantic Ocean, casting brilliant streaks of gold, pink, and deep purple across the sky.
The back lawn of the Vale Estate was decorated with fairy lights strung through the ancient pine trees. White linen tables were set with crystal glasses and fresh white lilies.
It was not a corporate gala. There were no reporters, no politicians, and no business executives trying to secure contracts.
It was a private family celebration.
Arthur and Silas sat at a side table, wearing casual linen shirts, laughing over plates of grilled steak and fine wine. Gideon, Roman’s chief financial officer, was chatting happily with Sadie’s head art conservator from the foundation.
Sadie stood near the edge of the stone cliff, wearing a soft white summer dress that fluttered gently in the warm coastal breeze.
In her arms, she held a four-month-old baby girl wrapped in a soft yellow blanket.
The baby had a tuft of fine dark hair like Sadie’s, but her wide, curious eyes were a clear, striking pale blue—the exact eyes of her father.
Her name was Victoria Reed Vale.
Roman walked out onto the lawn from the main house, carrying two glasses of fresh lemonade. He set the glasses on a nearby wooden table and walked up behind Sadie, wrapping his broad arms gently around both her and their daughter.
Victoria let out a tiny, happy coo, reaching her small fist up to grab Roman’s thumb.
Roman’s face softened completely as he let the baby hold his finger. The cold, ruthless titan of industry was nowhere to be seen—only a proud, protective husband and father.
“She looks just like you when she sleeps,” Roman whispered, leaning down to rest his chin on Sadie’s shoulder.
“She has your eyes, Roman,” Sadie replied softly, looking at their daughter. “She’s going to be just as stubborn as you.”
Roman let out a soft laugh, kissing Sadie’s cheek. “If she is as strong and brave as her mother, I will be a very happy man.”
They stood together on the cliff’s edge, watching the waves crash softly against the rocks far below.
Three years ago, Sadie had been a penniless woman working endless shifts in a small diner, carrying the scars of a cruel ex-boyfriend and the unresolved tragedy of her father’s death.
Three years ago, Roman had been a lonely, silent billionaire living in the cold shadows of his father’s empire, fighting an invisible war against dark men.
Now, standing in the warm summer air with their daughter between them, the darkness was entirely gone.
The pain had become strength. The secrets had become truth. And the lonely path had brought them home to each other.
“Are you happy, Sadie?” Roman asked softly, looking down into the eyes of the woman he loved more than life itself.
Sadie looked at her husband, then at their baby, and finally out at the endless, beautiful horizon stretching before them into the clear evening light.
“I’m home, Roman,” Sadie smiled softly, leaning her head against his chest. “I’m completely home.”

And as the stars began to twinkle softly in the clear night sky above the ocean, Roman Vale held his family tight, knowing that no shadow would ever touch them again.
