Chapter 10 - The Masterpiece

Later that evening, long after the crowds had dispersed and the autumn stars began to glitter over Boston Harbor, Claire stood alone on the upper balcony of the new Harrison Design Institute headquarters.
The drafting table in her private office was made of heavy oak—the exact replica of her father’s old table from the Brooklyn loft.
The city lights twinkled across the dark water, illuminating the skyline she had helped shape from the shadows. For twenty-five years, she had believed that love meant hiding her own light so someone else could shine brighter under the public gaze. She had believed that endurance was a virtue, and that loyalty required sacrificing her own identity.
She reached up, her fingers gently brushing the cold, smooth metal of the emerald pendant resting against her collarbone.
A gentle pair of arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
Michael Harrington rested his chin softly on her shoulder, looking out at the glittering harbor with her. “You know, for a woman who claims she’s just an architect, you’ve managed to redesign half of New England this year.”
Claire leaned back against his chest, a genuine, radiant smile breaking across her face—the kind of smile that didn't need to be rehearsed in a mirror.

“I’m not just an architect, Michael,” she whispered, her voice carrying the quiet, unbreakable strength of a woman who had built her life with her own hands. “I’m the foundation.”
The wind blew in from the ocean, fresh and clean, carrying the promise of a morning where every line drawn on the page belonged entirely to her.
