Chapter 9 - The Rebirth of the Empire
Three months later, the spring thaw had come to Chicago.
The Meridian had been rebuilt, its glass facade gleaming brighter than ever under the spring sun. But things were different now.
The Morrow organization had undergone a quiet, radical transformation. Silas had dismantled the illegal offshore accounts, transitioning the entire network into legitimate logistics and real estate ventures. The other families, seeing the sheer power and efficiency of the new Morrow conglomerate, chose to cooperate rather than fight.
Silas had stepped down from the shadows, stepping into the light as the legitimate CEO of Morrow Holdings.
On a beautiful Saturday afternoon, the Meridian hosted its grand reopening.
Ren stood in the center of the main dining room, wearing a stunning, tailored dark green wrap dress that highlighted her beautiful curves and complemented her auburn hair, which fell in soft waves around her shoulders. She no longer wore her hair in a tight, painful bun. She no longer tried to hide.
She was the newly appointed Chief Financial Officer of Morrow Holdings.
As she chatted with some of the city's top developers, a pair of strong, familiar arms wrapped around her waist from behind.
"You look beautiful," Silas murmured into her ear, pressing a soft kiss to her neck. He wore a sharp, classic navy suit, looking relaxed and happier than anyone had ever seen him.
"I'm working, Mr. Morrow," she teased, though she leaned back into his chest, her hands resting over his.
"Let the managers handle it," Silas whispered. "I want my CFO to myself."
Reed walked past them, holding a clipboard, a rare smile gracing his usually stern face. "The books are perfect, Ren. For the first time in eleven years, I don't have to worry about a tax audit."

As the guests mingled and the music played, Silas led Ren out onto the private terrace overlooking the Chicago skyline. The lake was a deep, brilliant blue, the winter ice completely gone.
