Chapter 10 - The Departure Gate

One year later, the Whitaker family walked through Terminal C at Boston Logan Airport once again.
This time, there were no $92 million deals on the phone. Graham’s phone was securely tucked inside his pocket, turned on silent. He was carrying a massive diaper bag over one shoulder and holding Chloe’s hand with the other.
Emily walked beside him, pushing a double stroller holding Liam and Maya, who were both happily chewing on organic apple slices.
They were heading to a family vacation in Hawaii—their first real trip together.
As they approached the security checkpoint, Graham stopped at the exact spot where, two years prior, his phone had shattered on the polished floor. He looked around the bustling terminal, the hurried passengers, the announcements blurring overhead.
Emily stopped beside him, looking at the expression on his face. She reached over and squeezed his hand.
"You okay?" she asked gently.
Graham looked down at Chloe, who was looking up at him with her bright blue-gray eyes, her little hand gripping his thumb tightly. He looked at Maya and Liam, who were laughing in the stroller. Then he looked at Emily, his wife, the woman who had rewritten his destiny.
"I’m perfect," Graham said.

He leaned down and kissed Emily thoroughly, ignoring the stares of the busy travelers rushing past them. For the first time in his life, Graham Whitaker wasn't running away from the future or hiding from the past. He was exactly where he belonged.
As they walked through the gate together, the man he used to be disappeared entirely into the crowded airport, leaving behind a father, a husband, and a man who finally knew how to breathe.
