Chapter 10 - A New Dawn

Tears spilled down Wren’s cheeks as she bridged the gap between them, throwing her arms around Nathaniel’s neck. Nathaniel pulled her tight against his chest, lifting her off her feet as he buried his face in her hair, breathing in her familiar scent.

"Don't ever make decisions for me again," she sobbed into his shoulder, laughing through her tears.

"Never again," Nathaniel promised, his lips finding hers in a deep, passionate kiss that washed away weeks of heartache and longing.

Brutus let out a loud, triumphant bark, circling around their legs and tail-wagging so hard he knocked over a display of pet toys, sending squeaky balls rolling across the floor. They both broke apart, laughing softly at the dog's antics.

One Year Later

The morning sun shone brightly over the grand estate in Newport. The heavy stone walls and security gates had been dismantled, replaced by rolling green gardens, open fencing, and colorful wildflower beds.

On the sweeping back lawn overlooking the ocean, hundreds of guests were gathered under a massive white canopy.

Wren stood before a flower-adorned altar in a breathtaking, simple lace wedding gown. Her mother sat in the front row, glowing with health and happiness, crying joyful tears alongside Dahlia, who was beaming proudly as the maid of honor.

Standing opposite Wren was Nathaniel, looking impossibly handsome in a tailored black tuxedo. His dark eyes held no lingering shadows—only an infinite warmth and love for the woman standing before him.

Trotting down the aisle as the ring bearer was Brutus, wearing a comical black bow tie around his massive neck, carrying a velvet pouch secured softly to his collar. The guests chuckled softly as the dog reached the altar, nudging his nose affectionately against Wren’s hand before plopping down contentedly at their feet.

"Wren," Nathaniel said, holding her hands tightly as they exchanged their vows. "You walked into my life when I was surrounded by darkness, and you showed me that true strength isn't built on power or fear—it's built on love, courage, and grace. I promise to spend the rest of my life protecting your happiness, standing by your side through every storm."

Wren smiled, tears of pure joy glistening in her eyes. "Nathaniel, you showed me that I didn't have to carry the weight of the world on my shoulders alone. You gave me a home, a family, and a love I never thought I deserved. I am yours, always."

"I now pronounce you husband and wife," the officiant declared warmly. "You may kiss the bride."

Nathaniel pulled Wren into his arms, dipping her slightly as he kissed her deeply, amidst thunderous applause and cheers from their family and friends.

As they walked back down the aisle together, hand in hand with Brutus trotting happily beside them, Wren looked up at the clear blue sky. The poor waitress who had once worn glued-together shoes and worked endless shifts had found her sanctuary—not in a fortune or a castle, but in the heart of a man who would love her for eternity.
