Chapter 3 - The Boardroom Ambush

By Monday morning, Adrian’s corporate world began to fracture. I stood in the glass-walled conference room of Cole & Sterling, flanked by Marcus Vance. Across the mahogany table sat the CEO, Richard Sterling, and a terrified-looking Adrian, who was flanked by the company's chief legal officer.
Adrian looked exhausted, the perfection of his tailored suit undermined by the dark circles under his eyes. He glared at me with pure hatred.
"This is a private domestic dispute that Ms. Evelyn is trying to weaponize out of jealousy," Adrian’s lawyer argued. "There is no corporate wrongdoing here."
"Is that so?" Marcus Vance stood up, opening his laptop. "Let’s look at the financial logs of Adrian's corporate expense account." He clicked a button, projecting a spreadsheet onto the screen. "Over the past six months, Mr. Cole has authorized five separate cash withdrawals under the label of 'discretionary marketing funds,' totaling thirty thousand dollars. We have digital receipts showing these funds were directly deposited into accounts associated with Rosa’s employment agency, effectively using corporate money to pay off his personal domestic worker to keep quiet."
Richard Sterling’s face turned gray. He looked at Adrian. "Adrian... did you use company funds to manage your mistress?"
"She wasn't a mistress! She was a maid who extorted me!" Adrian shouted, losing his composure. "Evelyn is fabricating this!"
"I am fabricating nothing," I said, speaking up for the first time. I pulled out my tablet and played the video. Adrian’s hissed threats filled the boardroom. “Take the money, leave the city... I’ll tell immigration you stole from me.”
The silence that followed was deafening.
Richard Sterling closed his eyes, rubbing his temples. When he opened them, he looked only at Adrian. "The international board will never approve the merger with this hanging over our heads. Adrian, you are suspended indefinitely, effective immediately. Pack your things and leave the building."

"Richard, please!" Adrian begged, standing up. "I built this merger!"
"Security will escort you out," Sterling said, his voice flat.
