Chapter 9 - The Plaza Hotel

The Grand Ballroom of the Plaza Hotel was a glittering sea of New York's corrupt elite. Politicians, judges, shipping tycoons, and high-ranking mobsters mingled under crystal chandeliers, sipping champagne while a string quartet played classical waltzes.

At the center of the room stood Marcus Hart—a tall, silver-haired man in his late fifties with cold, calculating eyes and a million-dollar smile that hid a lifetime of murder.

"To the future of Hart Global!" a senator toasted, raising his glass.

Marcus smiled, clinking his glass against the senator's. "To progress, gentlemen. And to eliminating the competition."

Suddenly, the music stopped.

The heavy mahogany doors at the entrance of the ballroom swung open.

The room went dead silent.

A pair of armed security guards at the door stepped back, their hands hovering nervously near their holsters, but they didn't dare draw their weapons.

Stepping into the ballroom was Dante Bellamy.

He was impeccably dressed in a midnight-black tuxedo, his broad shoulders filling the doorway, his arm no longer in a sling. He looked every bit the dark, undisputed king of the underworld.

But it wasn't Dante that made the room gasp.

On his arm was Evelyn.

She wore a breathtaking crimson silk dress that clung to her curves like liquid fire, cascading down to a sweeping train. Her dark hair was styled in elegant, retro waves, and around her neck sat a diamond necklace worth millions—a gift from the Bellamy vault. She held her head high, her blue eyes burning with cold, aristocratic power.

Marcus Hart dropped his champagne glass. It shattered against the marble floor, spraying sparkling wine over his polished shoes.

His face drained of all color. "Evelyn...?"

Dante and Evelyn walked down the center aisle of the ballroom together, the crowd parting before them like the Red Sea.

"Good evening, Uncle Marcus," Evelyn said, her voice echoing clearly across the silent ballroom, smooth, mocking, and completely devoid of fear. "You look surprised to see me. Did you think I was still tied up in a cellar?"

Marcus swallowed hard, his hands trembling as he stepped forward. "Evelyn... what is the meaning of this? Why are you with this monster?!"

"Monster?" Dante laughed—a dark, smooth sound that sent a chill through the room. He stepped forward, sliding his arm around Evelyn’s waist, pulling her flush against his side in a clear, possessive declaration. "I believe the only monster in this room, Marcus, is the man who used his own niece as a suicide bomb to start a war he couldn't finish."

"Security!" Marcus screamed, his composure shattering. "Get them out of here!"

None of the guards moved.

Leo stepped out from behind the entrance pillars, holding a thick leather folder. He handed it directly to two federal agents standing near the bar—agents who had been quietly invited to the party by Dante’s legal team thirty minutes earlier.

"Inside that folder, officers," Evelyn declared, pointing a gloved finger at Marcus, "are the original customs manifests for Pier 17, detailing fifty tons of illegal precursor chemicals imported under Marcus Hart’s personal signature, along with the offshore accounts he used to pay off the auction house."

The federal agents pulled out pair of handcuffs, stepping toward Marcus.

"Marcus Hart," the lead agent said, "you are under arrest for federal narcotics trafficking, human trafficking, and corporate fraud."

"This is a lie! She's crazy!" Marcus yelled, thrashing as the handcuffs clicked tightly around his wrists. He glared at Evelyn with pure, poisonous hatred. "You ruined us! You're nothing but a baker's bastard!"

Evelyn walked up to him, stopping inches away. She leaned in, her voice a lethal whisper that only he could hear.

"My father died an honest man, Marcus," she said. "You're going to die in a federal cage."

As the agents dragged Marcus out of the ballroom amid the flashing cameras of the press, the room remained frozen in shock.

Dante turned to Evelyn, reaching out to gently trace the jawline that had once been hidden behind a velvet blindfold.

"Shall we leave, Miss Hart?" he asked softly.

"Lead the way, Mr. Bellamy," she replied.
