Chapter 10 - The Good Table, Reborn

One year later, the spring sun shone brilliantly over a beautiful, secluded coastal estate in Maine. Far from the concrete towers of New York and the dangerous shadows of Greenwich, the air smelled of salt water, pine trees, and fresh blooming lilacs.
A long wooden table was set up on the green lawn overlooking the ocean. There were no armed guards at the gate, no hidden cameras in the trees, and no armored glass windows. The fortress was gone, replaced by a simple, open home.
Evelyn sat at the center of the table. Her honey-blond hair had grown back, thick, shining, and framing a face that was radiant with health and color. Her biopsy results had been entirely clean for six consecutive months; the transplant had been a total, miraculous success.
Beside her sat Natalia, looking elegant and relaxed, visiting from her new home in Switzerland during her university spring break. She laughed warmly as Dr. Samuel Reed—now the director of a fully funded, legitimate leukemia research foundation endowed by the remnants of the Vale estate—passed her a platter of fresh grilled seafood.
Dominic walked out from the kitchen, wearing a simple linen shirt, his sleeves rolled up, carrying a fresh bowl of salad. He looked younger, the harsh lines of tension and suspicion completely erased from his face. He had spent the last year undergoing intense personal therapy, learning how to live without a weapon in his hand and a target on his back.
He set the bowl down and sat next to Evelyn, immediately reaching over to slide his fingers into hers. She didn't flinch. Instead, she leaned her head against his shoulder, her touch warm, steady, and filled with an absolute, profound trust.
"Everything looks perfect, Dominic," she said softly, looking around at the friends and family gathered under the clear blue sky.

Dominic looked at his wife, his heart swelling with a deep, quiet reverence that had nothing to do with territory or power. He had lost an empire, but he had finally won his marriage.
"It is perfect," Dominic replied, smiling as he kissed her forehead. "This is the good table, Evelyn. And we built it together, from the ground up."
