Chapter 6 - The Midnight Raid

At 2:00 AM on Friday, under the cover of a thick fog rolling off the Passaic River, three black, unmarked armored SUVs pulled up outside an old, industrial warehouse in Newark, New Jersey. This was Volkov’s off-the-books medical compound—a place where the syndicate handled injured soldiers, forced organ harvesting, and illegal experimental drug testing.
Reyes and his eight-man team slipped through the rear entrance, using silenced weapons to neutralize the perimeter guards with lethal precision. Inside, the facility looked like a twisted version of a hospital: sterile concrete floors, flickering fluorescent lights, and steel doors with heavy electronic locks.
Using a military-grade portable hacking device, Reyes bypassed the security grid of the primary holding block. They moved room by room until they found the chamber matching the alphanumeric code Volkov had provided.
Inside sat a young woman, no older than twenty-four, with dark, fearful eyes. She was hooked up to a basic heart monitor, her arm bruised from repeated blood draws. Her name was Natalia Volkova, a distant cousin who had been brought from Russia under false pretenses and held as an insurance policy by the family.
"Who are you?" she gasped in broken English, cowering against the metal bed frame. "Did Victor send you to kill me?"
Reyes lowered his rifle, removing his tactical helmet to reveal a calm, non-threatening face. He held up his hands. "No, Natalia. We’re here to get you out. A man named Dominic Vale sent us. He’s offering you a ticket out of this country, a clean name, and enough money to never see the Volkov family again. But we need to go right now. The police are coming in fifteen minutes."
Natalia looked at the tactical gear, then at the open door. The fear of staying in Victor Volkov’s custody outweighed her fear of the strangers. She tore the monitor leads off her chest and stood up. "I come. Take me."
As the team escorted Natalia out to the SUVs, sirens began to wail in the distance. The FBI tactical units, tipped off by Marcus’s anonymous, encrypted data drop, were converging on the warehouse.
Volkov’s remaining guards opened fire from the upper catwalks, trying to prevent the extraction. A fierce firefight broke out, bullets sparking against the concrete walls. Reyes returned fire, dropped two attackers, and pushed Natalia into the lead vehicle.

"Go! Go! Go!" Reyes shouted into his comms.
The three SUVs roared away from the compound just as the first blue and red lights of the federal vehicles appeared at the end of the industrial parkway. The extraction was complete, and Volkov’s empire was about to be laid bare on the morning news.
