Chapter 6 - The Sister-in-Law’s Betrayal

While Marcus’s corporate world was crumbling, Sarah’s life was detonating at an even faster speed.

Inside the luxurious Alpharetta mansion owned by David and Sarah, screaming could be heard out on the street.

David was throwing armfuls of Sarah’s designer clothes, shoes, and handbags down the grand staircase into the foyer.

"David! Stop it! You're crazy!" Sarah shrieked, trying to grab a pair of red-bottom heels from his hands. "I did it for us! I did it for our family's future!"

"For us?!" David roared, his face bright red, his voice hoarse from screaming. "You slept with my brother! You took four million dollars from Marcus and hid it in a shell company under your name!"

"I didn't sleep with him!" Sarah yelled back, tears streaming down her face. "It was just business! Marcus was terrified Saraphina would take his money if they divorced, so he used my entity to hold the assets! I was just taking a fifteen percent management fee!"

"Fifteen percent?!" David barked a bitter, hysterical laugh. "You took four million dollars from my brother while I was paying off your credit card debts! The FBI visited my law firm today, Sarah! MY LAW FIRM! They are reviewing my bar license because they think I helped you launder the money!"

"David, please! We can fix this!" Sarah begged, dropping to her knees and reaching for his hands. "We have the Miami condo! We can sell it, pay off the tax debt, and start over!"

"The Miami condo is gone, Sarah," David said, pulling his hands away as if she were poisonous. "Saraphina’s attorneys filed a lis pendens lien against the property three hours ago. It’s frozen. Everything you touched is frozen."

Sarah sat on the hardwood floor, staring at her husband in utter horror.

"Get out of my house," David whispered, his voice trembling with sheer hatred. "My lawyers are drafting divorce papers right now. And unlike Marcus, I’m taking every single thing you own."

Just as Sarah began to sob, the heavy oak front door of the mansion was pushed open.

Two official process servers stepped into the foyer, accompanied by two federal agents in dark suits.

"Sarah Montgomery?" one of the agents asked, pulling a gold badge from his jacket.

Sarah looked up, pale and trembling. "Yes?"

"You are under arrest for conspiracy to commit wire fraud, tax evasion, and illegal structuring of financial assets," the agent stated calmly, pulling a pair of steel handcuffs from his belt. "You have the right to remain silent..."

David stepped back, watching coldly as the federal agents pulled his wife to her feet and clicked the cold metal cuffs around her wrists.

"David! Help me! Call the firm!" Sarah screamed as she was led down the front steps in front of all her wealthy neighbors. "David! Don't let them take me!"

David didn't move an inch. He simply closed the front door and locked it behind her.
