Chapter 6 - The Investigation Deepens

Over the next three weeks, my body healed rapidly under the care of top specialists.
The triplets thrived in their penthouse suite, gaining weight daily, their small lungs growing strong and clear. Hope and Faith were removed from their supplemental oxygen, and Arthur was already nursing greedily.
Meanwhile, in the executive suite of Holloway International, my forensic accounting team uncovered a nightmare of financial crimes Grant had committed over the last four years.
I sat at the head of the mahogany conference table—the very table where Grant had tried to celebrate his merger—surrounded by six federal forensic investigators and Assistant United States Attorney James Thorne.
"Ms. Vance," AUSA Thorne said, opening a heavy blue file. "The evidence your team provided is extraordinary. Grant Holloway wasn't just trying to cheat you out of your marital assets during your emergency C-section. He was running a massive, illegal offshore tax-evasion scheme through shell companies registered in Panama and the Cook Islands."
"How much did he steal from the corporate accounts?" I asked, my voice calm and precise.
"Over eighty-five million dollars over forty-eight months," Thorne revealed. "He used company funds to purchase luxury yachts, private jets, and lavish real estate for Victoria Sterling, masking the transactions as 'international logistics expenses.'"
"And what about his personal assets?"
"Because your father’s master trust clause froze all encumbered property," Thorne explained, "every bank account, mansion, and luxury vehicle Grant currently claims to own is legally tied to the corporate recovery suit. As of eight o'clock this morning, a federal judge signed a freeze order on all of Grant Holloway’s personal bank accounts."
I leaned back in my chair. "So right now, Grant Holloway has no income, no access to cash, no credit cards, and no legal representation willing to work without a massive retainer."
"He is currently staying at a cheap airport motel," AUSA Thorne nodded with a faint smile. "His credit cards were declined at the Ritz-Carlton yesterday evening, and his luxury car was repossessed by the lease company three hours ago."
I looked out the high window overlooking the city.
Grant had thought he could leave me dying in an ICU bed without a dime, without insurance, and without my children.
He had created a pit of absolute ruin for me.

And now, he was falling into that exact same pit all by himself.
"Proceed with the grand jury indictment, Mr. Thorne," I said firmly. "Show him no mercy. Because he showed none to my children."
